Renewable Energy constituted 62% of Europe s energy generation investments in 2009 Combined Member States expected to more than double total renewable energy consumption between 2005 and 2020 Renewable energy could constitute 37% of Europe s electricity mix by 2020; If it all happens then targets work!

Capital grant aid schemes for technologies ending, and being replaced with longer term schemes with a legislative basis typically based on obligations. REFIT (feed in tariff) for RES-E scheme now entering second phase. MOTR ended 2010 and Biofuel Obligation in force July 2010

12 Electricity generation efficiency has improved from 33% to 43%, primarily due to new CCGT plant. This, + increase in renewables, is also reflected in the emission levels from electricity, which reduced from 890 grammes of CO2 per kilo watt hour of electricity produced in 1990 to 528 grammes per kilo watt hour in 2010.
