Cellular phones may be accessed on the bus under the following conditions: -Calls may not be placed or received. - Taking pictures or recording video while on the bus is prohibited. NACS Student Handbooks will be updated to reflect the change.

2 FROM THE PRINCIPAL S DESK The holiday season is upon us and that means busy schedules for many families! You can help make the next few weeks less stressful by making sure your child gets a good night s rest, dresses for the weather and eats a good breakfast each morning! We do have breakfast at Cedar Canyon if you happen to have one of those crazy mornings and you have to send them out the door to the bus before they eat! The price is $1.35. Please remember if we have a two hour delay, we do not serve breakfast. Weather The students will also go outside during the winter months unless it s raining or the temperature falls below 10 degrees with the wind chill. Please make sure your child has a coat with a working zipper, hat and gloves. Once the snow hits they will need snow pants and boots to play in the snow, otherwise they will have to stay on the blacktop during recess time. NACS will post delays and closing on the radio, TV, Twitter and the NACS website at Thank you Cedar Canyon We held our annual Veteran s Day Program on November 11 th honoring the men and women who have served our country. The students were excited to perform and did a marvelous job! We reiterated to the student body the importance of honoring and recognizing those who have served. Several veterans approached me after the program thanking us for the recognition and also stated that they truly enjoyed the program. I couldn t be prouder of our students and staff! PTO I would like to THANK our PTO for their generosity, kindness, and support. This past month they donated a pie for each staff member, organized Spirit Wear, provided Movie Night, and have been working on the Holiday Shop. Our PTO definitely sets an example of giving to our students, staff, and families. A simple Thank You does not begin to express how much we appreciate all that you do! Blessings, Kim Lochmueller ART NEWS: You re Invited! Our first art show will be held on the evening of December 8 at 6:30 in the Falcon Room. This Art show will feature works by PreK, K, 2 nd, and 4 th Grade classes. This is the annual show for these classes so be sure to stop by and check it out. Remember that you can find a lot of information about the art room and my Procedures by checking out the school website. Click academics, and then click Sirois. Items needed: We are in need of plastic bags again. Art work will go home before winter break and we will need a lot of bags. A full list of items that we need/want can be found on my school website. Thanks! Art at Home: Children love modeling clay. It can keep them busy for quite a while and it s cheap too. You can pick up a pack at most dollar stores. For low mess fun, pick up a cookie baking sheet too. Have your child use their clay only on their cookie sheet. Modeling clay doesn t dry out like dough clays so it will last.

4 Music Notes Winter Concert (2 nd grade, 4 th grade, & band): December 8 th, 6:30 P.M. Spring Concert (3 rd grade, 5 th grade, & band): May 4 th, 6:30 P.M All Grades: Great job to all of our students performing God Bless the USA at our Veteran s Day assembly! Kindergarten: Great job kindergarten students for performing A Turkey Followed Me Home for Thanksgiving. They worked very hard preparing to sing it for their families. Now that the performance is done, we are getting back to regular music class. They are beginning to learn how to read quarter notes (ta) and two eight notes (titi.) They have also started to learn some winter/holiday classic songs. 1 st Grade: First grade students are doing some individual singing assessments right now. They are singing Apple Tree in front of the class by themselves and so far they are doing a wonderful job! These students have learned what a half note looks like, that it is worth two beats, and can read and perform rhythms using half notes. 2 nd Grade & 4 th Grade: These students are perfecting their songs for the winter concert next week. The 2 nd grade and 4 th grade students will be meeting in their classrooms at 6:15 P.M. on December 8 th. 3 rd Grade: The third grade students have begun singing Li l Liza Jane for their individual singing assessment. These students will have a written quiz next week in music class over note and rest names and values. A study guide is being sent home to help them to prepare outside of class. These students are continuing to work on playing ukulele, which they will be doing much more of once these assessments are completed. 5 th Grade: Congrats to our 5 th grade students for a great performance on Veteran s Day! I got many compliments from the veterans about how well the students performed that day. I had several veterans tell me how touched they were because they could tell the 5 th graders had worked very hard preparing for the performance. Way to go 5 th grade!! Band: Our band is preparing for the winter concert on December 8 th. Band students need to be in the music room at 6:00 P.M. that evening to warm-up before the show. SPELLING BEE On November 17th, sixteen courageous 4 th and 5 th graders competed in the 11 th Annual Cedar Canyon Spelling Bee. Mrs. Meg Bloom, former Cedar Canyon PEAK - Miss Reimer teacher, was the Pronouncer. Peyton Hitzman grade four was the champion! Rowen Smith was the runner-up. All students were well-prepared and did a fabulous job! DON T FORGET TO REQUEST A DOCTOR NOTE WHEN YOUR STUDENT IS ABSENT, IF POSSIBLE. THEY SHOULD BE TURNED IN WITHIN 5 DAYS OF THE ABSENCE.

5 Holiday Dance for Students in Grades 3, 4, and 5 Sponsored by Cedar Canyon s Student Council Friday, December 16, 2016 from 2:40-3:40 Cedar Canyon s Cafeteria with our own Miss Reimer as the D.J. Cost is $5.00 This money will be used to buy gift cards to help some of our own Cedar Canyon families. A can of pop and a bag of chips are included in the price Permission Slip and $5.00 is due by Friday, Dec. 9. I, give permission for to attend Reindeer Rock on December 16. ***Please pick up your child promptly at 3:40 at door 5. ***Please park and come in to sign your child out.
