1 SWMS Spartan News Follow on South Warren Middle School is dedicated to providing a rigorous and supportive learning environment to ensure 21 st century learning for all students. September 24, 2016 ACADEMIC PREPARATION: QUARTERLY EXAMS NEXT WEEK: Each quarter, all students will complete exams on the last 2 days of the quarter (this includes final exams on the last 2 days of the school year). Teachers use this data to help gauge where students are in their learning in order to provide appropriate follow-up help, thus helping students to master content. Students are expected to be in attendance when quarterly exams take place. Quarterly exams for the 1 st quarter will take place next Thursday and Friday. GRADES IN INFINITE CAMPUS: All grades, report cards, schedules, etc. are always viewable through Infinite Campus. Please be familiar with this site to stay up-to-date with this important info! You can also download the handy IC App on your smartphone this allows you to set up your phone for alerts every time that a grade has been updated! If you need any assistance, please don t hesitate to contact our guidance department. IXL: This is a tool that we use to enhance Math and Language Arts instruction. This can be used for free at school and at home, and many teachers will inform students what specific standards can be practiced at home for instruction that is currently taking place in the classroom. This extra practice is a critical for students to continuously work at mastering the necessary skills. Encourage your child to use IXL often. For more information, see the that was sent to parents earlier this week. 8 SILVER OPPORTUNITY FOR FREE TUTORING: Mrs. Suh is offering free math tutoring for 8 Silver students before & after school for any students who are interested in receiving additional assistance. She will be available every morning (except Thursdays) as well as Monday, Tuesday, and Friday afternoons. This is open to any 8 Silver student who wants a little extra help! Contact Mrs. Suh if you have any questions. Grace.Suh@warren.kyschools.us TEACHER WEBSITES: Visit teacher websites over the next week to help prepare for the end of the quarter. Most websites are loaded with information about content & activities covered, and several of the sites will begin to have exam information posted in the near future. We encourage you to use these sites frequently, especially since Language Arts and Math teachers will post lessons to target in IXL, tutorial videos, and enrichment games to play. It s a great way to practice skills with each lesson, but also to get in final preparations for quizzes/tests.
