I have been very fortunate to experience such a diverse career in 10 educational settings including a small rural school, Norfolk Island Central School and an outdoor education centre. It has been especially rewarding to work at Gosford Public School where I completed the 7 years of my primary schooling and then an additional 8 years as both the Deputy Principal and Principal. Within the period of my current role it has been a time of great change and celebration for the school. Specifically, the move to the present site in 2014 and our sesquicentenary celebrations in 2015 were occasions, that whilst not without challenges, were very significant in our school s proud history. I look forward to visiting the school in future years. I foresee enrolments further broadening in cultural diversity and the school continuing to celebrate excellence in learning opportunities that are provided by an outstanding staff and supported by a cohesive and community-focused parent body. 2 CONGRATULATIONS MRS DOUGLAS Mrs Douglas was successful at obtaining a merit-based, permanent classroom teaching position at Gosford Public School last week. Mrs Douglas is a highly-skilled classroom practitioner who continues to make valuable contributions across the school in a number of areas especially in the Creative Arts Key Learning Area. I would like to congratulate Mrs Douglas on behalf of our school community who will appreciate retaining her as a permanent member of staff. SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY I appreciate parents and carers making alternative arrangements for their children last Friday whilst our teachers participated in their Term 3 School Development Day. Our staff participated in a range of professional learning activities with staff from other schools in the Gosford City Learning Community: Henry Kendall High School and Point Clare Public School. The keynote speaker was highly acclaimed educator, Dr Simon Breakspear. The main focus was Learning Innovations and Dr Breakspear also led several workshops around this topic. Our final speaker was Ruben Meerman, a physicist who is well known to many people through his media roles with television programs such as Catalyst. Ruben was certainly an inspirational presenter! The day left the 130 teachers who were present with many thought-provoking ideas. It reinforced and demonstrated to us all that in our ever-changing world, schools have critical roles to play in ensuring that we meet the needs of students utilising innovative learning resources. IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE Please ensure that class teachers receive a written explanation for a child s absence within 7 days of the absence. Any absence letter received after 7 days cannot be registered on our new system and as such absences will be recorded as unjustified regardless of the reason eventually supplied. We appreciate your co-operation in this important matter. NAME CARDS Name cards for pick up your child/children from Faunce St West are available from the office. Parents are strongly encouraged to use this system for ease of traffic flow. KINDERGARTEN Our office is currently taking enrolments for children due to commence at Gosford Public School in kindergarten from the beginning of I would be grateful if current parents can encourage other parents who reside within our school boundaries to contact our office (ph ) if they have children who are due to commence school in P&C Meeting I hope that you are able to join us at the July P&C meeting which to be held in the Chapman Room between 7:30 and 9:30pm tonight Wednesday 27 July. 3 P & C Meeting this Wednesday 27 July 2016 A reminder that the P&C meeting tonight starts at 7:30pm in the Chapman Room. There will be an opportunity for discussion regarding girl s winter pants at 7:15pm. All welcome. On Wednesday 3 rd August, parents and community members will be invited to buy books from our Book Fair from 8am until 3:30 pm. If you are not able to visit the fair, your child will be able to purchase books for themselves on Wednesday before the Book Fair opens to parents and community. This year students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and join in our Book Parade. 8.00am Book fair open am Book selling to students whose parents are unable to attend Children can be sent with cash, credit card details (or receipt numbers) written on the back of their wish lists Or cheques made out to Scholastic am Break 1 Book Fair open pm Book Parade- Book Fair closed during the parade 1.15pm Book Fair re-opens Picnic lunch with parents Families and friends welcome to visit the fair with their children.
