An Introduction to Your Neighbors at We produce specialty chemical products that benefit people and communities all over the world.
Building on a PROUD History in Jackson County First Chemical Corporation, a DuPont company, is located in the Bayou Cassotte Industrial Park in Jackson County, Mississippi, just a half-hour drive west of Mobile, Alabama. The company, named First Chemical because it represented Mississippi s first chemical company, began operations in The company was acquired by DuPont in 2002 and remains a wholly-owned subsidiary. The Pascagoula plant employs approximately 180 people and produces a wide range of chemical products. The site is neighbored by a diverse group of other manufacturers, including Mississippi Phosphates and Chevron. We work hard to be part of the community and contribute to the quality of life in Jackson County. After all, we live here, too. Our employees make a real difference through their on-site work and community collaborations. Together, First Chemical and the men and women who work here are making a real difference for families, businesses, nonprofits and the environment.
A Vast Portfolio of Practical Products First Chemical Corporation takes pride in its commitment to use new technology to positively impact people s lives through the production of useful chemical products. These chemicals are the key ingredients in many items you use every day, including pharmaceuticals, automotive parts, tires, dyes, photo chemicals, agricultural chemicals and building materials. From blue jeans to pain relievers, First Chemical products are part of your life. Some of the products produced at First Chemical include: [Aniline] Aniline is used to make insulation for automotive and industrial products. [Nitrobenzene] Nitrobenzene is used to make acetaminophen pain reliever and other pharmaceuticals. [Forafac ] Forafac firefighting foam to fight aviation, military and industrial fires. [Cerenol ] The world is changing and with it the need for smarter and more renewably sourced products for manufacturers. Cerenol is a family of high performance, renewable sourced polyols that offers many value-added properties, for a wide range of end-use products in diverse markets, without compromising functionality, such as personal care, functional fluids, performance coatings, ink-jet inks and high-performance elastomers. First Chemical Corporation is a leading producer of aniline and nitrotoluene intermediates and derivatives used in agricultural products. We are the world s second largest merchant producer of aniline and the only domestic producer of nitrotoluenes and toluidines, which are used in the production of dyes. The DuPont Oval Logo, DuPont, The miracles of science, Forafac and Cerenol are registered trademarks or trademarks of DuPont or its affiliates.
First Chemical is an important contributor to the local economy: 3 More than $11 million in annual payroll 3 More than $1 million in annual sales and property taxes 3 More than $30 million invested in new equipment and technology Significant Economic Contributions Today, more than 180 men and women work at the First Chemical plant. The site employs a variety of manufacturing operations and units, making it an ideal location for the production of specialty chemicals. In this new age where geographic boundaries become less important and even small businesses have the ability to sell goods and services in overseas markets, First Chemical and DuPont are focused on addressing major global trends, including: Exponential growth in developing countries Need for increased food production Interest in renewable energy and materials Demand for greater safety and security Desire for increased connectivity First Chemical serves as a connecting force between Jackson County and the global marketplace. The plant represents one of Mississippi s major exporters and contributes millions of dollars in export sales to the local economy every year.
Here are some of the causes and organizations we support in Jackson County: Contributing to the Community First Chemical and DuPont are committed to active support of the communities where we operate. First Chemical has been a Mississippi company since its founding in the late 1960s, and community involvement has always been, and continues to be, an important element of the company s overall values. The company s community support focuses on projects that improve the quality of life for area residents, with particular emphasis is on education and the environment. Through our partnerships with leading educational organizations and the involvement of our employees as volunteers, we are committed to improving students understanding of math, science and technology. Safety is a core value for First Chemical and DuPont. And we are proud of our achievements in the area of employee and community safety. In the summer of 2008, First Chemical set a new record, marking three years without an event related injury. The site also received the Zero trophy from DuPont s Gulf Coast Safety Management Team in honor of its unblemished safety record.

Emergency Response First Chemical partners closely with multiple organizations to protect the health and safety of the public, including the Jackson County Emergency Management division. Our dedicated employees stand ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide emergency support in any situation that may arise. Plant personnel are trained and equipped to respond to, and correct, many of the potential releases of chemicals used on-site. We also partner with local county fire and police units to conduct routine on-site training. We have established a community information line for residents to call during an emergency, in addition to the county reverse 911 program, to learn about the status of plant operations and what actions the community is recommended to take.
