1 Curriculum (Version 2014) (this english text is just a translation, not an official version) 1. Qualification Profile The Master programme aims to provide students with sound knowledge of the functioning of the institutions of the European Union and its interdependencies with Member States. The interdisciplinary programme combines law, political science and economics as well as history and communication studies. Graduates will be able to use a broad range of analytic techniques in a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach. By providing a comprehensive education in EU-competences, the programmes opens a broad range of different occupational areas (e.g. national and European public administrations, international organisations, multi-national businesses, interest groups, NGOs or academic institutions) for graduates of different bachelor and master programmes. 2. Workload and Duration The workload of the master programme is 120 ECTS (4 semester). The programme starts with an entry-phase (30 ECTS); the main study period covers 90 ECTS. 3. Course types 1. Lecture Lectures aim to introduce students to the main areas and methods of each subject and to acquaint them with the principal doctrines. Active participation of students is encouraged. 2. Proseminar Within proseminars students acquire in-depth knowledge, as they are trained in academic methods basing on practical examples. There is a continuous assessment of a student s performance based on written and oral exercises, as well as discussions. 3. Course Courses allow students to independently prepare specific subject content. Participation is obligatory. Courses end with an exam, assessing the performance during the whole semester. 4. Seminar Within seminars students performance is continuously assessed. Seminars aim to enhance academic discussion. Participants have to independently prepare written and oral contributions to the discussion. Seminars may be combined with excursions. 5. Interdisciplinary simulation Interdisciplinary seminars take the form of simulations. Typically the didactic methods include practical exercises, team work, team teaching and regular involvement of practical experts. Students performance is continuously assessed. 2 (1) General provisisions 1. Special wishes of working students and students with children concerning the time table of lectures will be considered as far as possible. Results of evaluations are realised if considered feasible within the upcoming academic year. 2. Any disadvantages for disabled and chronically ill persons resulting from their condition should be avoided. Requests for differing examination procedures, adapted to the requirements of these persons, should be allowed. 3. Lectures may be held in foreign languages. For organizational reasons lectures may be held only during a specific amount of time during the semester, with an accordingly higher amount of weekly hours (block teaching). 4. Lectures from other fields of study, differing from this curriculum, may be considered as equivalent to types of courses according to 3 with the approval of the instructor of the lecture, if the respective course corresponds to the course types of this curriculum in terms of methods and didactical approach. 5. Students should be informed about the range of courses offered according to this curriculum in due time before the start of the semester. (2) Registration for courses 1. In general students have to register for courses and exams within the given application periods (e.g. on written application lists or in a preliminary meeting at the beginning of the semester). Registration is required for courses with constant evaluation and a limited number of participants. 2. The number of possible participants may be limited. For admission to such courses the following criteria are applied ( in the given order): Necessity of the lecture for the continuation within the curriculum Number of ECTS already acquired in the respective examination subject In case of equal amount, students receiving public financial study assistance are treated preferentially (3) Compensation of courses If courses foreseen in this curriculum have already been successfully completed within a previus bachelor programme, the course should be compensated with an elective subject according to 6 para 9, rated with at least the same amount of ECTS. (4) Work experience Elective subjects up to 4 ECTS can be replaced by practical training. Students can go through this practical training at any institution, which work principally in the area of European integration. Students should work at this institution while being registered for the master programme for at least 3 weeks (120 hours). A report of their work experience has to be submitted together with the confirmation of the institution. Final approval is given by the curricular commission. 5. Study entry phase (first semester) The study entry phase comprises the following courses and exams: 1.Qualifying examination "Basics of European Union Studies" (3 ECTS) A qualifying exam based on the content of the courses listed under para 2-4 has to be passed. Students should be informed in advance and in due time about the delineation of contents

An additional course (5ECTS) has to be chosen from the range of subjects taught in political science, law, economics and social history, economics or communications studies with special focus on the European integration process. Students should be informed about the range of subjects in advance and in due time before the semester starts. 5. Practical course on the transformation in Central and Eastern Europe (5ECTS) Seminar/ Course "Transformation in Central and Eastern Europe" with study trip 6. Elective subjects on European Integration Courses up to the amount of 7 ECTS have to be completed, and should be chosen from the following subjects: 1. Lectures taught at the University of Salzburg with a special focus on European integration or relating especially to the European dimension of the relevant subject 2. General language education: Basic or advanced courses in Czech 3. Technical languages of the disciplines enumerated in 5 para 1 3 (e.g. Business English, French for lawyers) 4. Lectures in Law or Economy with a special focus on European Integration tought in foreign languages 5. Lectures in Political Sciences with a special focus on European Integration tought in foreign languages (4th semester) 1. Interdisciplinary Master seminar (2 ECTS) 2. Master seminar in the area of the master thesis (2 ECTS) 3. Master thesis (20 ECTS) 4. Master exam (6 ECTS) 7. Examination regulation (1) Study entry phase Examinations in the subjects of political sceince, economics and economics and social history, as well as in the elective studies have to be taken either in written or oral form. The examination in European Union Law has to be taken written or orally in the form of a qualifying examination, the examination in Basics of European Union Studies is a written qualifying examination. (2) Main Study phase 1. Students take the examinations of the main study phase as part of the courses. Two of the three interdisciplinary courses ( 6 para 7) have to be completed. 2. For admission to the obligatory courses of the main study phase the following courses of the study entry phase have to be completed successfully: Introduction into the politics of the European Union (Lecture and Proseminar - 5 Para 2 European Union Law (Qualifying examination) - 5 para 3 Lecture Economics of European Integration I - 5 para 4 Basics of European Union Studies (Qualifying examination) - 5 para 1 3. Admission to the interdisciplinary seminars is based on the successful completion of the following additional courses: Lecture Economics of European Integration II - 5 para 4 Lecture Economics and History of European Integration - 5 para 4 Course English for European Union Studies - 5 para 5 Seminar/ Course in political science with special focus on European integration - 6 para 1 Seminar/ Course in law with special focus on European integration - 6 para 2

5 Seminar/ Course in economics with special focus on European Integration - 6 para 3 Seminar/ Course additional elective subject - 6 para 4 (3) Master Exam The master programme is completed with a master exam in two parts, and a positively graded master thesis. The first part of the master exam is the successful completion of all courses and examinations in the subjects enumerated in 5 and 6. The second part comprises an examination, taking the form of a presentation of the master thesis and a discussion about the thesis. The second part of the master exam takes place as an examination in front of a commission. A prerequisite for the admission to the second part of the master exam is the successful completion of the first part and a positively graded master thesis. 8. Master thesis The master thesis (20 ECTS) is an academic paper ( 81 UG) on a theme drawn from the subjects of political science, law, economics and social history, economics or communication studies. It should have a specific focus on European integration and should follow an interdisciplinary approach methodically. 9. Recognition of examinations 1) Recognition of exams taken in the course of law studies 1. The diploma examination European Union law replaces the qualifying examination European Union law ( 5 para 3) 2. Certificates of course in foreign languages ( 4 of the curriculum Legal Studies) replace the elective subject "legal and economic courses in foreign languages" ( 6 para 9) 2) Recognition of courses from the master programme in "European Studies with focus on European Law" of the Palacký University in Olomouc (Czech Republic) 1. The verification of examination from this master programme to the amount of 20 ECTS replaces courses according to 6 para 1-4 of this curriculum. 2. The verification of a positively assessed master thesis in the framework of this master programme replaces the master thesis according to 6 para 11. Examinations in the subject of the master thesis to the amount of 7 ECTS replace the seminars listed in $ 6 para 10 and 11). 10 Special provisions for graduates of the master programme in "European Studies" at the University of Olomouc Graduates of the master programme "European Studies with focus on European Law" of the Palacký University in Olomouc (Czech Republic) have pass the interdisciplinary seminars at the University of Salzburg ( 6 para 7) to complete the master programme "EU Studies". 11. Academic degree Graduates of the Master programme "EU Studies" are awarded the academic degree of "Master of Arts" (MA).

6 12 Entry into force of the curriculum and transitory provisions 1. This curriculum enters into force on October 1st, Students, already registered for the Master programme at that time (version 2010, bulletin no. 47, ) are entitled to complete the programme according to the previous curriculum by September 30th 2016, at the latest
