1 SG Evaluation Kit for SG Wi-Fi Module Overview SG is an evaluation kit used to simplify the rapid evaluation and software integration of the SG Intelligent Wi-Fi Module. In addition, the EVK schematics provide an insight of typical simplified hardware applications for the SG Module. The EVK allows for easy access to a USB interface via a standard USB hardware connector including a USB to UART Bridge chip. The USB connector is provided to plug into a common PC for rapid software testing. An additional DB9 RS232 connector and its TTL translator transceiver are included for an optional RS232 interface to the SG Features Easy to use USB connector Installed optional RS232 interface Full application circuit example. Standard 5V Powered USB on Insert Simple Client Driver Ordering Information Packaging Evaluation Kit Order Number SG The SG Module is soldered to this EVK assembly. The PCB also includes debug connectors which supports 3V UART, RS232 and JTAG test signaling. Each IO and debug connection is easy to access for rapid software development. The evaluation kit is powered via the USB power or external power and provides an onboard regulated supply to the module from the 5V USB type A plug or from an external 5 to 15V supply from bench instrumentation. A local voltage regulator provides the regulated supply to all active devices in the EVK. The Kit consists of a SG soldered into a PC board and is depicted below. Figure 1: SG Kit

SANTEC TSW L-S J7 is used to monitor the external supply voltage. J8 is used as a jumper in case the resistor R10 is substituted to a 1 ohm resistor for module power consumption only. J8 shorted will zero the 1 ohm R10 resistance in series with the module. J4 jumper is used for firmware loading control. Normally not used and pulled low internally. J9 and J10 jumpers select the mode of operation for USB serial or DB9 serial. USB serial is jumpers J9 and J10 to pins 1 and 2 as in the J9 J10 details depicted in the main component detail picture. SW1 is a manual switch to reset the module. D4, D5 and D6 LED s are connected to the module GPIO s 10, 13 and 14 respectively for software monitoring purposes. USB Host application For USB applications simply insert the board assembly into the USB socket provided in the majority of PC computers. There are no external supplies or clocks required. The EVK is powered by the PC USB source. RS232 Host application For RS232 applications, the user is required to change the existing hardware as explained in the J6 DB9 pin descriptions, and use it in either a PC or a RS232 application product. An external Power supply is required. Firmware loading pin description Pin BOOT0 (Jumper J4) needs to be high during power up. RESETn pin (SW1) need to be pulled low at least 5ms to initiate the firmware download sequence. Note: The latest firmware is available at for download.
