1 WORSHIP GOD Family Devotional Guide SING: We Will Glorify READ: John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. QUESTION: What does worship mean? Possible answers: praise, showing God how important He is, etc. QUESTION: Is worship something we should look forward to? Why? Discuss how great God is and why we should anticipate worship QUESTION: What are some things we could do as a family to help look forward to worship and to help us get ready? Possible answers: have a devotional on Saturday evenings, lay out our clothes on Saturday night, get up a little earlier Sunday morning, etc. SAY: In the next few weeks, we are going to spend some time as a family in devotionals thinking about the five acts of worship, and what we can all do to participate better. QUESTION: What are the five acts (or avenues) of worship? Singing, prayer, Bible study (sermon), the Lord s Supper (communion), giving QUESTION: Which one do you look forward to the most? Why? ***NOTE: There is not a wrong answer here. This is a way to help the children open up and will give you insight into their individual hearts. Possible answers: talking to God, taking requests to God, etc. ASK: What are some different parts to prayer? Some answers: Praise, requests, thanksgiving, asking forgiveness READ: Matthew 6:9-13 (the Lord s prayer) REVIEW: What are some different things that Jesus prayed for in that prayer? READ: Philippians 4:6-7 ASK: How do you think prayer helps us have peace? ASK: When we worship, what are some ways we can make sure we are praying in a way that will please God? SAY: God commands us to sing, so we must sing, but He also delights in our singing, so we should want to bring Him joy. READ: Psalm 100 ASK: Doesn t this psalm make you want to be more joyful in your singing? ASK: What are some ways we can learn to participate better in our singing at church? DISCUSS: Some ways to divide money that is given to the child (allowance, payment for chores, etc.) so that giving is always part of their thinking.
