1 Saskatchewan Labour Force Statistics March 2014 UNADJUSTED DATA According to the Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey for the week ended March 15, 2014, there were 552,200 persons employed in Saskatchewan during March 2014, an increase of 600 from February 2014 and 4,500 more than the number employed in March Agricultural employment was 41,000 persons in March 2014, up 300 from the February 2014 level but 500 less than the March 2013 agricultural employment level of 41,500. Nonagricultural employment was 511,200 persons in March This is an increase of 300 from the February 2014 non-agriculture employment level of 510,900 and 5,000 more than March The Saskatchewan unemployment rate for March 2014 was 4.6 percent. This is an increase of 0.8 percentage points from the February 2014 rate of 3.8 percent and 0.6 percentage points higher than the March 2013 level of 4.0 percent. Saskatchewan's labour force increased by 5,500 to 578,800 persons in March 2014 from 573,300 persons in February This is 8,300 more than the March 2013 labour force of 570,500 persons. The Saskatchewan participation rate rose 0.6 percentage points to 69.1 percent in March 2014 from 68.5 percent in February The March 2013 participation rate for Saskatchewan was 69.5 percent. There were 26,600 persons unemployed in Saskatchewan during March This is an increase of 4,900 from February 2014 and is 3,800 more than the number unemployed in March SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA On a seasonally adjusted basis there were 558,300 persons employed in Saskatchewan in March 2014, up 400 from the February 2014 level of 557,900 and up 4,000 from the March 2013 employment level of 554,300 persons. The Saskatchewan seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March 2014 was 4.5 percent. This is an increase of 0.6 percentage points from the February 2014 rate of 3.9 percent and also 0.6 percentage points higher than the March 2013 rate of 3.9 percent. CANADIAN DATA Canadian employment increased by 44,000 persons in March 2014 to 17,548,000 persons from 17,504,000 persons in February In March 2013, there were 17,348,300 persons employed in Canada. Canada's unemployment rate was 7.4 percent in March 2014, unchanged from the February 2014 level. In March 2013, Canada's unemployment rate was 7.7 percent. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Canada was 6.9 percent in March This is 0.1 percentage points lower than February 2014 and 0.4 percentage points lower than the March 2013 level of 7.3 percent.
