3 We ll help you get your life back Addiction treatment, recovery, and return-to-work issues can be especially challenging for nurses. Like other health care professionals struggling with addiction, your license and livelihood are on the line. Nurses, due to the nature of your work and dedication to patient care, can become vulnerable to addiction. Irregular shift work, repeated emotional trauma, and workplace injury causing chronic pain might lead to unhealthy self-treatment. With extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and ready access to medications, a plan for short-term relief can potentially transform into fullblown addiction. And, for most nurses, financial constraints, fear of losing a job or license, and the stigma associated with addiction can put addiction treatment seemingly out of reach. For these and other reasons, you typically have less access to comprehensive treatment services and recovery support resources than many of your professional colleagues in health care. Until now.

4 Specialized care In developing a first-of-its-kind treatment track specifically for nurse professionals, Hazelden clinicians looked into why physicians who receive treatment show recovery rates of 90% or more while lasting recovery is far more elusive for nurses who complete treatment. Among their key findings: For the nursing professional, addiction is typically treated as an acute disease rather than a chronic condition. Post-treatment care and support are lacking or nonexistent for nurses, as is assistance with reintegration back into work. That s why Hazelden s Nurse Professionals track, in addition to offering services based on our signature evidencebased, interdisciplinary treatment model, also features specialized components designed to help you over the long run: Options for step down phases of care Peer-group setting A thorough return-to-work assessment A personalized recovery management plan including a weekly aftercare support group Ongoing communication and coordination with health care monitoring and/or diversion boards In general, treatment involves intensive group therapy, psychoeducational services, and individual counseling. In particular, the Nurse Professionals groups will provide you with powerful insight from peers facing similar challenges and situations.

5 Ongoing support As you near discharge, we will conduct an in-depth practice assessment to produce a concrete return-to-work plan specifically for you one that provides you with the highest likelihood of safety and success at work. You will also receive a continuing care plan with recommendations such as ongoing therapy, support groups, and where available recovery support services specifically for nurses. We might also recommend that you take advantage of Hazelden Connection, our 18-month intensive recovery management program that involves coaching for you and your loved ones, accountability verification reports, and drug testing. Hazelden s web-based MORE program is offered free of charge to all alumni of the Nurse Professionals track. The program connects you with 18 months of recovery support in the form of personalized tools, guidance, fellowship, and recovery coaching. Financially feasible A Hazelden financial case manager will work with you to determine insurance coverage, payment options, and financial arrangements. Most major insurance is accepted, and financial aid options are also available.
