2 Italian regulatory framework and market s evolution ITALIAN REGULATORY FRAMEWORK Italian Regulatory Authority is playing a leading role in the consumer s protection and information MARKET OPENING AND SWITCHING RATE As a consequence, since 2007, more than 8 millions of Italian consumers has changed Energy Trader. Half of this switching consumers are families: > During the last year more than switching per month : 130k from regulated to free market 25k from the free market to the regulated market 95k inside the free market ENEL S CONTRIBUTION TO THE MARKET S EVOLUTION Web Trader Portal (WTP) Front Office Unico Rete (FOUR): Application to Application channel dialogue for Traders and Producers Smart Meter 2

4 Evolution of Enel Smart Meter From an intelligent device... to an active component of the Smart Grid Management simplicity contract operations are remotely managed avoiding intervention at the customer s premise Environmental benefits thousands of tons of CO 2 avoided each year thanks to more efficient operation management Easier switching the customer can easily switch energy retailer Transparency customers can always check their energy consumption Set of information maintained profile of the electrical measures and not only of energy consumption alerts toward the grid control for quality thresholds Closer interaction with the customer availability of meter information on different media support for demand/response Better integration of distributed generation into the grid protection capability both for the inverter and for the grid optimization of the energy flow Start Massive replacement 2006 Optimization Evolution towards Smart Grids The smart meter allows the customers to actively participate and to access all information regarding consumption

5 Enel Smart Info project Smart-Info Enel Technology Customers White goods Electric Meter Smart Info The Smart Info is the natural extension of the Smart Meter in the domestic grid and is fully integrated in the Enel AMM solution (Telegestore). Every indoor socket will be an access point to the network. The purpose of the project is providing clients with a tool to increase their awareness on energy consumptions. The Smart Info will be tested as a part of the Smart Grid pilot project incentivized by the Italian Regulatory Authority (AEEG) on customers in the Isernia area. 5

6 Enel Smart Info device Information will be provided through a wide range of standard media (such as personal computers, dedicated displays, white goods) that will be available in the market Enel Smart Info will participate in a domestic framework to support new advanced services, such as, automatic control of loads, integration of smart white goods, enabling of real time tariffs, Active demand services. 6

8 the project is a collaborative and spontaneous project between Electrolux, Enel, Indesit and Telecom Italia The aim of the project is to develop a communication infrastructure that enables provision of Value Added Services based upon information exchange related to energy usage, energy consumption and energy tariffs in the Home Area Network (HAN). The project envisions a protocol that shall be used to build an integrated platform to allow cooperation between the main devices involved in residential energy management. Enel Smart Info s role is enabling the communication between Enel Telegestore and the devices in the HAN 8
