1 guiding architects network mee2ng 2015 in Turin Friday, Saturday and Sunday February 20 th, 21 st and 22 nd 2015 with voluntary guided tours on February 18 th and 19 th in Milan and Ivrea and workshop on February 23 rd UPDATED AT January 16 th Milan, the main city of northern Italy and one of the most populous metropolitan areas in Europe, is the most important laboratory of modern and contemporary architecture in Italy. During the 20th century the city lives in an extraordinary architectural experience that represents the Italian cultural and historical events. Each period were accompanied by a con2nuous evolu2on of architecture that acquires a unique style for Milan. Today Milan is experiencing a period of greats transforma2on that are totally changing the imagine of the city towards the World Expo 2015 (1 May - 31 October 2015). Over the past ten years, major industrial areas have been transformed into new districts and the most famous Italian and interna2onal architects have worked, or are working today, in Milan, working on quality of life as well as on architectural quality. Generally known as the Italian one company town, about twenty years ago Turin started a process of deep change, looking for a new urban iden2ty. With its huge transforma2on, the city standing at the foot of the Alps has become a laboratory- city for the reconversion of the post- industrial heritage. The direc2ons of change are mul2ple and they are leaving important signs in its urban fabric. Besides its industrial history, Torino can surprise with its Baroque architecture, that has brought the city to the forefront of interna2onal popularity among architects, and with some masterpieces of the Italian modern architecture, such as the works by Pier Luigi Nervi and Carlo Mollino. Do not forget that in Turin you can taste the delicious chocolate and the famous aperi2f Vermouth, white wine infused with herbs.

8 MEETING VENUE The Obligatory meelng from Friday to Sunday will take place in Turin at: Associazione Urban Center Metropolitano Piazza Palazzo di Ciaà 8 F Torino Italy h[p:// HOW TO TRAVEL TO MILAN Milan is served by three airports: Milano Linate, the city airport, 7 km from downtown. From Linate you can reach the city center in around 30 minutes with the urban bus n.73 (2cket 1,50 euro, first departure: 5:35 a.m., last departure: 12:35 a.m., departures every 10 minutes). Taxi is expensive: around 40 euro. Car hire with driver : around 70 euro. Milano Malpensa, the most important interna2onal airport in northern Italy is 45 km far fromdowntown. You can easily reach the city center (Cadorna) with the Malpensa Express train (travel 2me 30 minutes, 2cket 12,00 euro). Bergamo Orio al Serio, the low cost airport (Ryanair) is the third airport of the city, located 50 km far from Milan. You can take a shu[le bus and reach the Central Sta2on in around 50 minutes (2cket one way 5 ) HOW TO TRAVEL TO TURIN By plane Torino s Airport Sandro PerLni is 15 km north of the city. From the airport it is possible to reach the city centre by bus, train, and taxi. The SADEM bus service runs every minutes from the airport to Torino s Railway Sta2ons of Porta Susa and Porta Nuova. It costs 6,5 euros, and 2ckets may be purchased at a 2cket kiosk inside the airport terminal or aboard the bus (with an addi2onal 1 euro charge). The trip from the airport to the centre of the city takes approximately 45 minutes. The TERRAVISION bus service connects the airport and the city with the cost of 5,5 euros. It stops at Torino Esposizioni and Lingo[o. You can also arrive in Torino from Milano Malpensa Airport which may be cheaper to fly to. There is a bus service from SADEM running ten 2mes daily between the city and the airport. The ride lasts 2 hours and costs 22 euros. The city bus terminal is in C.so Vi[orio Emanuele 131/H. The bus also stops at the Turin Porta Susa railway sta2on, from which you can easily take the metro into the main sta2on Torino Porta Nuova. Tickets can be bought at the bus sta2on counter inside the airport, or online. By train The most convenient sta2on for reaching the Mee2ng venue is Porta Nuova, but Porta Susa (High Speed

9 Trains main sta2on, used by Trenitalia and Italo) is well connected with the Line 1 of the metro. By car Travelling by car to and from Torino is quite prac2cal due to good links to the rest of Italy and to France and Switzerland. For those who come from France and Switzerland, tunnels and motorways to take are: A32 Torino - Bardonecchia. From France (Chambery direc2on), passing through the Frejus tunnel. A5 Torino - Aosta. From Geneva, through the Mont Blanc tunnel. A4 Torino - Milano. From Switzerland (Zurich) and East Europe. Strada Statale 27 and then A5 Torino - Aosta.
