3 1 General Information This document describes solely the additional function, Selection of another material in Lava Design, of the new software module. This new function will not be available until it has been activated by the 3M ESPE Lava Service. The document refers to the current operating instructions Lava Software. 2

4 2 Use Lava Design provides a function for sending design data to a qualified 3M ESPE partner laboratory which can process other materials using rapid manufacturing technologies. This requires users to define the material as other material when creating a new case. Refer to Chapter of the operating instructions Lava Software for information about the creation of a case. Case Information The selection of the material type other materials automatically activates the option Send for milling. When editing has been finished, the project is uploaded to Lava Connect during the export. 3

5 Users can select the partner laboratories which have been approved for reception of their cases in Lava Connect. Refer to the operating instructions, Lava Connect Data Transfer, for additional information about the transmission of 3-D data. Note: Cases which have were created in Lava Design with the material type other material cannot be processed further using a Lava milling machine (e.g., Lava Form). Once the case has been created, continue as described in Chapter 5 of the Lava Software operating instructions with the exception of the following points: In contrast to Lava cases, there are no restrictions concerning the minimum wall thickness, values for the beginning and expansion of cement gaps, and for the connector cross-sections. Suggestions for suitable settings can be requested from the 3M ESPE Lava Service. The mill blank inspection (see Chapter in Lava Software ) for other materials in the dialog box Set insertion path is not applicable. The dialog Modeling copings and pontics (see Chapter in Lava Software ) displays the maximum dimensions of the modeled data rather than the function Show blank. In addition, the size in mm is shown to the right of the button. The dimensions of the case can also be displayed in the dialog Case info by clicking on the button Show in the tool bar once the project has been completely edited. Note: These values serve only as reference values for the size of the case. They may vary by as much as 1 mm in either direction from the actual size. Display of the Maximum Dimensions of a Case After the connectors have been defined, the editing step Insert sprues (Chapter in Lava Software ) is skipped. Users go straight to the case information. 4

User is responsible for determining the suitability of the product for user s application. If this product is defective within the warranty period, your exclusive remedy and 3M ESPE's sole obligation shall be repair or replacement of the 3M ESPE product. 3.2 Limitation of Liability Except where prohibited by law, 3M ESPE will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from this product, whether direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequential, regardless of the theory asserted, including warranty, contract, negligence or strict liability. 3M ESPE is liable neither for the quality of the designs of the models prepared by the customer nor for the quality of the products produced by the RM center. 3M ESPE does not assume any warranty for a specific volume of STL files or for the unrestricted availability of the Lava Connect portal; in particular, it is not liable for short service interruptions which do not seriously impair the use of the Lava Connect portal.
