1 Job Description Post: Course Manager Reporting to: Curriculum Leader Responsible for: Administration and resources (including staff) associated with specific courses. Five Point Salary Scale: 24,054-27,073 (plus 12% for London Weighting). Hours: Variable, full- time (37.5 hours per week) Job Purpose To support the course team; to plan and organise routine team operations and to ensure the efficient implementation of AtM policies and procedures in order to deliver the highest possible quality curriculum to students. Main Responsibilities Teaching To teach to the contracted hours of 900 per annum, less the annual allowance for being a course manager, to be agreed with your Curriculum Leader. Staff Coordination To create a positive climate and set high expectations for the course team in relation to standards of student achievement and the quality of teaching. To ensure the achievement of team objectives, working with the Curriculum Leader. To advise and guide team members on teaching and learning strategies. To inform the Curriculum Leader of training needs for team members. To arrange, conduct and record appropriate team meetings. Course Management To ensure the development and maintenance of a course structure and schemes of work within the context of the organisation s guidelines and policy. To lead the team in the development of course materials and resources. To be responsible for organising internal and external examination/assessment related administration including the moderation and verification of coursework and internal course assessments. To provide and maintain learner and course data as required by ATM management information policies. To liaise with other Course Managers, the Curriculum Leader, Curriculum & Operations Manager and other ATM post holders as appropriate. 1
2 To maximise the efficient utilisation of management information. Quality Assurance To review the work of the course team in accordance with the organisation s self assessment procedures. To set, monitor and review targets and contribute to the development, implementation and achievement of strategic, operational and the organisations business plans. To contribute to the monitoring of the quality of teaching and learning in the course team and encourage continuous improvement through the sharing of good practice. To seek learners views on course delivery via course panels and other means and use them to improve the quality of delivery of teaching and learning. Learner Management To create a team culture to ensure high standards of student achievement, retention and satisfaction. To monitor, evaluate and advise on the progress and achievement of Learners on the course. To identify, plan and contribute to the implementation of support for `at risk Learners and extend opportunities for the more able. Recruitment, and assessment of learners to provision including assessment of prior attainment, level and suitability for provision, including provision of initial advice and guidance, participation in the marketing and promotion of courses, attendance at events, interviews/auditions and the identification of learner needs. Provision of timely and appropriate feedback and assessment to learners and parents/guardians including advising of academic progress and attainment. Resources To use accommodation and resources to create an effective and stimulating environment for learning and teaching. To allocate stock or resources to staff. To monitor the use and location of all course resources. Reponsibilities of All Staff To maintain own continuing professional development. To maintain discretion and confidentiality as appropriate for the post. 2
3 To comply with ATM policies and procedures particularly the Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Equality Policy and Procedures. To promote a positive image of the Centre internally and in the local community. To contribute to the management of students throughout the Centre. To use IT where appropriate and develop IT skills. To participate in ATM events as required. To carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and general nature of the post under the direction of the Group Managing Director or other designated manager of the organisation. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Course Manager Qualifications: A degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject area. A formal teaching qualification at level 4 (CTLLS or equivalent) or above. Professional registration to an appropriately recognised organisation (e.g. IFL). Knowledge and Experience Experience of working in FE. Experience of the post- 16 age group. A demonstrable record of success in previous roles. Significant successful experience of teaching on the relevant course area Up- to- date knowledge of the subject area, syllabus requirements and appropriate teaching techniques; an awareness of requirements of awarding bodies. Knowledge and understanding of mechanisms for the identification, assessment and support of learner needs Understanding of equality and diversity within the curriculum, barriers to learning and strategies to overcome these Personal attributes and qualities The ability to lead a course team through support. Good organisational and administrative skills. Sound IT skills. The ability to work flexibly as part of a team. The ability to make a contribution to the development of the curriculum and resources. The suitability to work with children and young people. Excellent communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. A good work ethic with the ability to work under pressure, to be flexible, thorough and accurate. A commitment to provide an outstanding and inspirational service to staff and students.
