1 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Typical Application on Roof of Trailer, RV, or Truck Box Apply 3M Extreme Sealing Tape in the following order to create a shingle effect of the sealant tape. 1 back of vehicle 2 right side of vehicle 2 left side of vehicle 3 front of vehicle #2 Truck Front #3 #1 #2 Application Tools Required: Isopropyl alcohol and water mix (50:50) and spray bottle (optional for cleaning purposes) 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N (EST), (2 rolls per unit on a 8 x 16 unit) 3M AP111 Primer Lint free towels Box cutting knife Blue plastic squeegee 3 or 4 paint roller 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 1

2 Step 1 Clean surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and water (50:50). Step 2 Saturate a lint-free cloth with 3M Adhesion Promoter 111 and prime surfaces where tape will be applied. Wipe the AP111 primer on aluminum surface. Allow the primer flash off. (30 seconds or less) Step 3 Apply EST (with non-stretch liner in place). Leave the tape long enough in length so you can trim out corner caps (if needed) once tape is in place. 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 2

3 Step 4 Apply EST to the entire overlap seam, from corner cap to corner cap. Step 5 Press EST against the corner cap edge with the blue squeegee. Step 6 With non-stretch liner in place, roll down with a soft roller on aluminum surface. Step 7 With non-stretch liner in place, push EST into the overlap seam edge with the blue squeegee. 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 3

4 Step 8 Roll down on the roof panel surface with a soft roller. Step 9 You must remove the non-stretch liner for the tape to seal properly. Remove the non-stretch liner by peeling from a corner. Once the liner is removed, the tape will appear flat in finish. If the liner remains, the finish will be glossy. Step 10 Perform final roll down with a soft roller using firm pressure. 5 Corner Caps Sealing Instructions If the unit utilizes corner caps, follow these instructions. If it does not contain corner caps, overlap 3M Extreme Sealing Tape in corners. Step 1 Lay first piece of EST up over the corner cap by approximately ½ Step 2 With non-stretch liner in place, roll down with a soft roller on aluminum surface Step 4 With non-stretch liner in place, roll down with a soft roller on roof panel surface. 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 5

6 Step 5 Pull non-stretch liner back about six inches. Step 6 Cut out around corner cap with a razor so that no tape is on the corner cap. Cut level with the aluminum extrusion. Step 7 Remove excess EST from corner cap. 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 6

7 Results with EST applied to one of the intersecting seams. Step 8 Push EST into corner cap edge. Step 9 Lay second piece up over to the corner cap second EST piece will overlap first EST piece. 8 Step 11 With non-stretch liner in place, roll down with a soft roller on aluminum surface Step 12 With non-stretch liner in place, roll down with a soft roller on roof panel surface. Step 13 Pull non-stretch liner back about six inches. Step 14 Notch out around corner cap with razor so that no tape is on the corner cap. 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 8

9 Step 15 Remove non-stretch liner from entire piece of EST. Step 16 Push EST into corner cap edge Step 17 Roll down both surfaces with a soft roller. 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 9

10 Step 18 Optional: Apply 3M 4000UV Hybrid Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure at corner cap. Sealant should fill seam between corner cap and EST. Step 19 Trowel sealant into the corner. 12 Splicing EST by Creating an Overlap Seam Step 1 Roll down first piece of EST as per previous instructions. Non-stretch liner must be removed from first piece before second piece can be applied. Step 2 Using a two-inch minimum overlap, place the second piece of tape on top of first piece of tape shingled toward the back of the unit. Step 3 Remove non-stretch liner and roll down EST tape as previously instructed. Step 4 After non-stretch liner is removed, push the second piece of tape into the end of the first piece. 3M Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N Application Process - Page 12
