2 2015 Student Competition Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children welcomes your participation in the 2015 Student Competition. The competition is open to students who reside at one of the four OBHC residential campuses and who are eligible to attend the President s Leadership Conference. Purpose The purpose of the competition is to provide an opportunity for students to share their writing ability, artistic ability, or speak publicly and to highlight the values of OBHC to residents, staff, donors, and the general public. This competition will give students the opportunity to develop their thoughts and opinions. Creative Writing, Oral Presentation, and Visual Presentation submissions may include personal experiences, properly-cited historical examples, motivational challenges, or spiritual insights. Recognition and Prizes Participating students will gain valuable experience in public speaking, art, or writing, encouragement in expressing their opinions, and recognition for their efforts. Cash prizes totalling up to $800 will be awarded. The winning creed recitation will be presented at the President s Leadership Banquet on Friday, July 10, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. The winning work of art will be framed and displayed at the banquet. Instructions General Instructions Contestants must submit an entry form that includes their age, school grade, campus, competition category, and topic. The campus administrator must approve the student s participation. The six categories of competition are: Creed Recitation Visual Art Oral Presentation Photography Creative Writing Media Art 2 Instructions are continued on the next page.
3 The OBHC Creed I believe grace is the undeserved love of God whereby He gives eternal life to those who place their faith in Christ; and that blessings I receive come from God s grace, not my merit; therefore, I will help people not based on their merit, but God s love. I believe in the sanctity of human life; that every life is valuable; and that every child, born and unborn, is a gift from God, designed and created by Him. I believe that excellence is the result of doing my best and going beyond what is expected, recognizing that as an ambassador for Christ, I can have a positive impact on my circle of influence, and that whatever I do, I should do it heartily, as to the Lord. I believe that a life of integrity honors God; is characterized by honesty in what I do, what I say, and what I say I do; and is made alive in my actions. I believe in a spirit of cooperation, acknowledging that more can be accomplished through working together than through individual efforts, and recognizing that two are better than one, for if they fall, one will lift up the other, and that a cord of three strands is not quickly broken. I believe respect is due every person I meet, and I understand that it is my actions that will gain the respect of others; I will strive to treat others with thoughtfulness, remembering that Jesus taught us to Love your neighbor as yourself. This creed, a cooperative effort of Steve Childers, Cindy Hume, Brandon Jacks, Art Brown, Tony Kennedy, and Phyllis Salamy, was approved by OBHC President Tony Kennedy on June 21,
