1 BEACH BASH AT BLAISDELL 2010 DATES: June 4-6, 2010 SANCTIONED BY: HOST: LOCATION: COURSE: PARKING: TYPE OF MEET: ELIGIBILITY: ENTRIES: Held under the sanction of Missouri Valley Swimming, Inc. on behalf of USA Swimming, Inc., Sanction No: MV Topeka Swim Association, Inc. and the Topeka Parks and Recreation Department. This program is funded in part through the use of funds provided by the City of Topeka. Blaisdell Family Aquatics Center Gage Park 6th and Gage Blvd. Topeka, Kansas Outdoor heated fifty (50) meter course consisting of ten (10) lanes with nonturbulent lane lines and competition starting blocks at each end. A Colorado Electronic Timing System with horn start, touch pads, backup buttons and (2) single line score boards will be utilized. An adjacent warm up/warm down area will be available. The pool is a certified pool with USA Swimming. Pool depth at the west end of the competition pool is thirteen feet; pool depth at the east end of the competition pool is four feet. On site parking is available at no charge. The meet will consist of Age Group and Open Timed Finals. The 400-meter Individual Medley, 400-meter freestyle, 800-meter freestyle and the 1500-meter freestyle will be swum alternating women then men, fastest seed to slowest seed. The 11-12, age group event swimmers and 15 & Over event swimmers at these distances may be entered together in the 11 and Over and 13 and Over event for that distance, seeded and swum together, but scored separately. All swimmers must be 2010 registered athlete members of USA Swimming. The swimmer s age on the first date of the meet determines the age for the meet. Entries may be limited by the host club in its discretion. Topeka Swim Association has the sole discretion to determine which entries to accept. In exercising this discretion, Topeka Swim Association will consider: number of officials provided by team, balance of age groups and gender in entries, level of competition and geographic location. All events will be swum fastest to slowest. In seeded events, deck entries will be limited to open lanes and available at the discretion of the meet referee. Entries should be in Hy-Tek commlink format and may be submitted by or on diskette. A printed copy must be sent in addition to the and should accompany diskette entries. ENTRY FEES: ENTRY LIMIT: ENTRY DEADLINE: SEEDING: RULE AUTHORITY: PROGRAMS: CHECK-IN and SCRATCH RULE: LIMITED EVENTS: Entry fees shall be $3.50 per individual event and $5.00 per relay team. Make all checks payable to Topeka Swim Association. Deck entries shall be $7.00 per individual event and $10.00 per relay event. Make checks payable to Topeka Swim Association. Swimmers may enter all events for which they are eligible, but may swim only five (5) individual events per day and two (2) relay events per day. Swimmers may swim each relay event (200/400 Free, 200/400 Medley) only one time during the course of the entire meet. No swimmer shall exceed five (5) individual events per day and two (2) relay events per day. Team entries must be received by Friday, May 28, 2010 at 5:00PM CDT. Please mail your hard copy entries so they arrive prior to the entry deadline. No updates on times will be accepted. No phone entries will be accepted. With the exception of the 1500 Freestyle, 800 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle and 400 IM the meet will be pre-seeded by Hy-Tek Meet Manager. Entries shall be in Long Course Meters times only. No time entries will be accepted, but will be seeded last. Deck entries will be accepted if the timeline permits for non-limited events, only in empty lanes in existing heats, and at the discretion of the Meet Director and Meet Referee. All Events will be seeded and swum fastest to slowest. Fees for deck entries will be: $7.00 per individual entry and $10.00 per relay entry USA Swimming Official Rules for Swimming and the 2010 Missouri Valley Swimming Rules will govern the meet. The Missouri Valley Swimming Safety Guidelines and Warm-Up Procedures will be in effect at this meet. Fly over starts may be used in the discretion of the Meet Referee. Note: Individuals without a valid 2010 USA Swimming coach membership card will not be allowed access to the deck and will not be allowed to participate in any coaching capacity. Swimmers without a coach at the meet must check in with the Meet Referee and will be assigned to a coach during the warm-up portion of the meet. As per MVS Rules, all coaches and officials must display a 2010 USA Swimming membership card while acting in any official capacity on the deck of the pool. All Topeka Parks and Recreation Department rules will be in effect. The Wading pools and water park equipment while not be available for use while the meet is in progress, unless opened by the pool lifeguards. Meet programs and merchandise will be for sale at the meet. Except for the Limited Events, Swimmers are considered to be "checked in" for their events when entries are received by the Entries Chair. Positive check in will be required for the Limited Events, which shall occur not later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the session of the applicable event. Any swimmer failing to positive check in may be scratched from the event in the discretion of the Meet Referee. Entries in the 11 & Over 1500 Freestyle may be limited to the 50 fastest women and 50 fastest men, or combination not to exceed a total of 100 swimmers. Entries in the 13 & Over 800 Freestyle may be limited to the 30 fastest women and 30 fastest men, or combination not to exceed 60 swimmers. Entries in the 13 & Over 400 IM may be limited to the 50 fastest women and 50 fastest men, or combination not to exceed 100 swimmers. 2

3 Entries in the 12 and Under 400 Free may be limited to the 30 fastest women and 30 fastest men, or combination not to exceed 60 swimmers. Entries in the 13 & Over 400 Freestyle may be limited to the 50 fastest women and 50 fastest men, or combination not to exceed 100 swimmers. All heats of the Limited Events shall be deck seeded and swum fastest to slowest, alternating women and men. Positive check-in will be required for the Limited Events not later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the session of the applicable event. Swimmers must provide their own timer and counter (where applicable) for the Limited Events, including the 400 Free, 400 IM, 800 Free and 1500 Free. 4 SAFETY MARSHALS: AWARDS: FINAL RESULTS: TIMING ASSIGNMENTS: SPECTATORS: TBD Ribbons for 1st through 8th for individual events, for each age group: 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, and 15 and over and ribbons for 1st through 3rd for relay events. All awards must be picked up by the swimmer or coach by the end of the meet on Sunday. No awards will be mailed. Final results will be posted on the Missouri Valley website and may include the swimmer s name, age, times and USA Swimming number. Each club is invited to assist in providing back-up timers (2 per lane). Anyone wishing to time is asked to check in with the Meet Director during warm ups for the session. All swimmers in the 400 Free, 400 IM, 1500 Free and 800 Free must provide their own counters and timers. To assure coaches and officials adequate visibility of the swimming venue, all spectators, including athletes, are requested to remain four (4) feet or more from the edge of the pool. WARM-UP PROCEDURES: 1) Pre-Meet Warm-Up Period A. Marshals will remain on duty for the entire warm-up period. B. Marshals will be responsible for the control and supervision of the swimmers both in and out of the pool. C. Control and Supervision are the key words for safe swimming. 2) Coaches shall continually supervise their swimmers during all the meet and warmup sessions. 3) Swimmers or coaches not following the prescribed warm-up procedures or directions of marshals or USA Swimming officials may be barred from the use of the warm-up area. 4) Backstroke swimmers shall ensure that they are not starting at the time that a swimmer is on the blocks. Swimmers shall not step onto the starting blocks if a backstroke swimmer is waiting to start. 5) No running on the pool deck. 6) Changes to warm-up procedures and other factors necessary to ensure swimmer safety may be made by the host team with the consent of the referee. 7) Warm-up and warm down areas are for the use of USA Swimming registered swimmers only and are not to be used as a cooling off area by spectators. 8) Circle swimming only. 9) Swimmers may not dive or jump into the pool during general warm up. Swimmers must enter the pool by stepping in feet first, or sitting and sliding in, in a safe and cautious manner. Entering in any other manner may result in the disqualification from one or more of the swimmer s events for the session at the discretion of the Meet Referee. Swimmers may dive during the designated sprint warm up. 10) No diving, use of the starting blocks, or racing starts off pool edge. 11) At any time during general warm ups, the coach of a team in control of any lane may convert the team s lane to a sprint lane by: A. Removing all swimmers in that lane from the water. B. Informing coaches in adjacent lanes. C. Informing the safety marshal. D. Following all guidelines for sprint lanes. 4
