Static Free Floor Finish Application and Maintenance s Static Free Floor Finish is a high gloss floor finish designed to dissipate static electric charge and prevent static charge generation as it provides protection and enhanced appearance to a floor surface. It can be applied to any hard floor surface, such as vinyl, vinyl asbestos, rubber, linoleum and other surfaces. It eliminates the need for static control tiles or floor mats. Static Free Floor Finish dries in 30 minutes and is perfect for cleanroom, electronic manufacturing, and assembly and test areas. In addition to providing a static dissipative surface, Static Free Floor Finish provides a slip resistance surface in compliance to ASTM D 2047 requirements for slip resistance floors. Static Free Floor Care Line Static Free Floor Finish Static Free Floor Static Free Floor Finish Stripper ES567 / ES167 ES563 / ES163 ES569 / ES169 Application and Maintenance s It is recommended that the surface be stripped of previous finish before the application of Static Free floor finish. The static dissipative properties of the previous coat could affect the final results of the new coating. If the vinyl tile is new, it will still require stripping to remove the protective wax finish. If the protective coating is not removed the Static Free floor finish will not properly adhere to the tile. When applying Static Free floor finish to a concrete or other porous surface make sure the surface is properly sealed to insure optimum floor finish performance. Chemtronics Static Free Floor Care line is designed to work as a system, to provide you the best, most repeatable results possible for your ANSI/ESD S20.20 qualified floor. The following procedures act as a guideline for the application and maintenance of Chemtronics Static Free Floor Finish. s can be adjusted to compensate for local conditions askchemtronics@chemtronics.com 1
Surface Preparation 1. Remove all furniture and other objects from the area where Static Free Floor Finish is to be applied. 2. Place wet floor signs at the appropriate entrances to prohibit entry into the area. 3. Sweep the area with a push broom or dust mop to remove dust and large dirt particles. 4. Spray baseboards with the Static Free Baseboard. Allow 10 minutes contact time. 5. With a baseboard stripping instrument, scrub the baseboards until all build up is remove. 6. Prepare Static Free Stripper solution by mixing 1 part stripper to 4 parts hot water. One gallon of stripper solution will cover approximately 100 square feet. 7. Apply the Static Free Stripper solution generously to the area with a cotton mop. Allow at least 10 minutes contact time before proceeding to next step. Make sure the solution does not dry before removal. 8. Thoroughly scrub the area with a low speed (150 rpm) machine and a black pad. 9. Remove stripping solution slurry with a wet vacuum. Rinse the floor with clean water as soon as possible to pick up residual solution. Rinse the floor at least twice with clean water. Pick up rinse water with the wet vacuum then allow the floor to dry. The floor surface does not need to be neutralized. 10. Inspect the floor. The surface should have an even, dull appearance. A shiny spot is an indication that the floor finish slurry has dried. If the residual finish areas are numerous, repeat stripping procedure and rinsing procedures. Small residual areas can be removed with the Static Free Baseboard and a baseboard stripper device. Finish Stripper (ES169 / ES569) Static Free Baseboard 1 Low speed machine ( rpm) 1 push broom or dust mop 1 pack of black stripping pads 2 mop buckets 1 wet/dry vacuum Two cotton mop heads Access to water askchemtronics@chemtronics.com 2
Floor Finish Application Once the floor has been properly prepared the Static Free Floor Finish can be applied. It is recommended that at least two coats of Static Free Floor Finish be applied to the surface. Three coats will provide optimum performance. Additional coats can be added to extend durability, however the floor finish may need additional drying time between coats. The floor surface temperature must be above 45 F before floor finish application to insure proper film formation. High humidity can increase the Static Free Floor Finish drying time. Always inspect to be sure the finish is completely dry before the next application. 1. Line the bucket for the floor finish with a plastic bag. This prevents any kind of contamination from entering the floor finish. Such contaminants can potentially affect static dissipative readings or appearance of the finish. 2. Pour Static Free Floor Finish slowly into the pail to prevent excessive foaming. 3. Immerse finish mop into the floor finish to insure proper coverage. Lift the mop from the finish and allow draining. Place the mop into the wringer, twisting it as it is lowered into the wringer. Once the mop head is completely in the wringer press out excess floor finish by pushing down on the mop with the handle only. DO NOT SQUEEZE THE WRINGER. 4. Lay the mop against the baseboard. 5. Pull mop along the baseboards. 6. Return to pail and repeat procedure Place mop on the floor and apply floor finish, sweeping the mop in a figure eight motion. Overlap mop into the baseboard area, staying at least 12 inches from the baseboard. 8. After finish has been applied to the entire area allow 30 minutes drying time. 9. Drying time may vary due to conditions such as humidity and air circulation. High humidity can significantly increase drying time, whereas low humidity can decrease drying time. To insure the floor is dry, wait for the recommended dry time to expire and then walk the floor in socks. If the socks do not stick or pull at the floor, it is the floor is ready for the next coating. 10. Repeat procedures 3 through 9 until desired coats have been applied. Finish (ES167 / ES567) 1 mop bucket with wringer 1 mop handle 1 floor finish mop head askchemtronics@chemtronics.com 3
Static Free Floor Care Maintenance s Dust Mopping Dust mop floor daily to remove dust and large dirt particles. Accumulation of such particles can have an abrasive effect on the floor finish and reduce the life of the floor finish. Damp Mop s A static dissipative floor finish must be cleaned periodically with a floor cleaner especially designed to clean the floor surface and enhance the static dissipative properties of the floor finish. The cleaning frequency is determine by the amount of traffic the floor experiences and the appearance expectations of the facility. For best results, damp mop the floor daily with Static Free Floor. Daily use will prolong the life of the floor finish by removing abrasive contaminants. Static Free Floor will also maintain the static dissipative properties of the floor finish. 1. Dust mop or sweep floor to remove large dirt particles. 2. Mix Static Free Floor with water at 10 parts water, 1 part cleaner in a clean bucket. 3. Immerse mop head into bucket. Place wet mop head into wringer and wring tightly. 4. Place mop on the floor then mop the entire area, sweeping the mop head in a figure eight motion. 5. The floor should be dry in approximately 10 minutes. 1 mop bucket 1 mop handle 1 cotton mop head askchemtronics@chemtronics.com 4
Enhancement s Certain floor maintenance procedures can revive the appearance of the floor finish, thereby extending the time between stripping or recoating. The frequency of these procedures depends on the appearance requirements of the program and the traffic level of the facility. Spray Buffing Spray buffing enhances the floor finish by removing deep scuffs and black marks. It also polishes to a moderate gloss. s 1. Dust mop and damp mop floor. Allow drying. 2. Dilute Static Free Floor Finish two parts water with one part finish in a quart spray bottle to create the spray buff. 3. Attach pad to floor machine. Use the red pad for scuff removal; use the white pad for gloss enhancement. 4. Spray a light mist of the spray buff solution on a small section of floor. Buff the area until it is dry and gloss has increased. Repeat procedure until the enter floor has been spray buffed. Damp mop Mop bucket Low Speed Floor machine Finish (ES167 / ES567) Red or White Floor polishing pad Dry Burnishing Dry burnishing is a procedure performed by a high speed ( rpms) floor machine. Dry burnishing removes scuffs and marks from the floor finish while enhancing gloss and appearance. 1. Dust mop or sweep floor to remove large dirt and dust particles. 2. Damp mop the floor with Static Free Floor Solution. Allow floor to dry completely. 3. Place the burnishing pad on the high speed machine. Dry burnish the entire area. 4. Dust mop if necessary after burnishing. If excessive powdering occurs, consider using a less aggressive burnishing pad.
