2 1 Arts Award Discover is about: Discovering and taking part in different kinds of art all around you Finding Out about artists and their work Sharing what you have found out with other people This Arts Award Log Book is for you to keep your drawings, paintings, doodles, writing, photos and leaflets in. Be as creative as you like you can print things from the Internet or cut and stick pictures from magazines. You can also add in extra pages. Remember, the arts includes all the different things listed on the front cover. Do a drawing or stick a photgraph of yourself here... What do you hope to find out at the Museum..? Which types of art do you enjoy doing?

See if you can find these objects in the Museum s Mining Lives Gallery. Label what kind of art the objects are. 4 Practice your Writing skills Work with a partner. Choose an interesting object from the Mining Lives Gallery. Don't tell your partner what you have chosen... Ask your partner to close their eyes. Now describe your object in three words... Can your partner guess what your object is? Use different words until they guess what it is Imagine this object could tell you all its secrets. Write about your object here... Who has owned it? What was it for? Think of an exciting story that might have happened to it... Where has it been?

12 ...about Artists and Coal Mining 11 Did you know? There are lots of artists who have been inspired by coal mining. There are some artists who used to be coal miners themselves. There are also creative people working at the Museum. 1. Use the information sheets that your teacher has given you about artists and coal mining. 2. Choose one person that you would like to find out more about.
