Each residence has its own identity and atmosphere and offers a choice of accommodation options, and in 2015 UoN Student Living will open its exciting new residential development at our Callaghan campus. This new offering will almost double our residential community, making it easier than ever before for students to experience the distinctive world of on-campus living. Benefits There s nothing quite like an on-campus residential student experience. Living within walking distance of lectures and classes as well as being surrounded by hundreds of fellow students with common study goals makes academic life the first focus for student residents. But UoN Student Living offers so much more. Located just fifteen minutes from the city s beaches and CBD, UoN Student Living offers community living unlike any other with social, cultural, academic and pastoral support through our ResLife program. Our student-focused facilities include study areas, common rooms and indoor and outdoor social spaces. Twenty-four hour security and on-call resident support provides peace of mind for those coming to live on campus, as well as for their loved ones at home. Living on campus is a perfect transition for those leaving home for the first time or who are arriving from other towns, cities or countries. Our residents are drawn from every corner of the globe creating opportunities for residents to forge lifelong friendships with people from all around the world. In 2015 UoN Student Living has no minimum home residence distance for prospective students anyone who has applied or is enrolled at the University of Newcastle can apply to live on campus! The choice of private or shared rooms and private or shared facilities provides a range of accommodation options to suit our diverse student population. We also offer the ease of fully-catered meal options as well as semi-catered or full self-catering for the student seeking more independence.

3 Room Types & Licence Fees Barahineban, Callaghan 96 studio-style apartments Barahineban provides studio accommodation and is the smallest residence at the Callaghan campus. Built around a community courtyard, this unique accommodation offers studio-style apartments with private kitchenette, ensuite and study area. Social spaces for Barahineban residents include two barbecue areas and a recreational room featuring a wide screen plasma television, pay TV, DVD and pool table. Mobility access available. Barahineban - Double Occupancy Split cycle air conditioned, heating system, kitchenette & ensuite. Two beds, wardrobe, desk, chairs, table, mirror, notice board, shelves, television, DVD player and desk lamp are also included. Self-Catered 1 $ Blue Gum House, Central Coast 26 self-contained rooms, six and seven share unit style residences Conveniently located at our Ourimbah, Central Coast campus, Blue Gum House is the smallest of our residences, offering an independent living environment in a picturesque location. Its close-knit community offers a mixed gender and multicultural environment where residents live in independent unit-style residences with modern surroundings in a quiet study location. Blue Gum - Standard Self-Catered 1 $180 Fully furnished lockable room which includes a single bed, large desk, lots of storage space and an ensuite. The units have a large kitchen, living and dining area that you share with your flatmates. 4 Edwards Hall, Callaghan 298 catered rooms, 85 self-catered rooms, five-share unit-style residences Edwards Hall is the oldest and largest of the residences at the University of Newcastle with a proud history and strong traditions. Close bonds are forged at Edwards Hall or Teds as it is affectionately known. Teds has a choice of either catered or self-catered options. Catered residents enjoy 16 meals a week made up of breakfast and dinner on weekdays and breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekends. Main Hall residents share bathroom facilities while Cutler North rooms have ensuites for privacy. Self-catered residents live in five-share unit-style accommodation with shared lounge, kitchen and bathroom. All residents have access to a swimming pool, laundry, recreational room and a music practice room. Edwards Hall - Main Hall Standard Single Residents are provided with a private, lockable room but with shared unisex bathrooms including showers & toilets on each corridor. Main Hall residents have a shared tearoom with a microwave, fridge, instant hot water & sink for extra food preparation, in addition to their fully-catered 16 meals per week plan. All rooms have a single bed, large study table, ergonomic office chair, heater, wardrobe & storage for books and personal items. 16 Meals per week $ Edwards Hall - Cutler North Room Residents are provided with a larger style private, lockable, airconditioned room with a private ensuite bathroom. Residents also share a tearoom with a microwave, fridge, instant hot water & sink for extra food preparation, in addition to their fully-catered 16 meals per week plan. All rooms have a single bed, large study table, ergonomic office chair, study lamp, heater, wardrobe & storage for books and personal items. 16 Meals per week $ Edwards Hall - Self Catered 85 self-catered rooms are located in 17 townhouses. They each have a fully furnished lockable private bedroom which includes a bed, large desk & storage space. Self-catered townhouses have a large kitchen with some provided utensils and a living & dining area that you share with your five flatmates. 5 Evatt House, Callaghan 211 self-catered rooms, five, six and ten share unit-style residences Originally known as the country kid s college, Evatt House is a home away from home for students who seek independent living in mixed or single gender, self-catered unit style residences, but who want to be part of a friendly and social community. All units have private rooms with communal lounge, kitchen, bathroom and access to shared laundry facilities. All residents have access to barbecues, a picturesque courtyard, group study room and a fully equipped social recreation room including wide screen plasma television, pay TV, DVD and billiard table. Evatt House Self-Catered 1 $180 Evatt House - Self Contained Flat Evatt House standard rooms are popular for students who like to cook for themselves. The 209 standard rooms are configured in 5, 6 and 10 share units. They each have a fully furnished lockable room which includes a bed, large desk and lots of storage space. Evatt House rooms have a large kitchen, living and dining area that you share with your flatmates. Evatt House self-contained flat offers a fully furnished lockable room which includes a bed, large desk and lots of storage space. The flat also provides a private kitchen, living and dining area as well as a private ensuite. Self-Catered 1 $ International House, Callaghan 221 self-catered rooms, five, six and ten share unit-style residences, plus three self-contained flats International House is a unique residential community which promotes respect, participation and community spirit while welcoming residents from all over Australia and the world. This residence has a higher ratio of international to domestic students which enables all residents to meet and form close friendships with a wide range of people from diverse nationalities for a globally enriched experience. International House is perfect for students who seek independent living in a self-contained unit-style residence with the convenience of semi-catering. Residents enjoy dinner meals from Monday to Friday. All units have private rooms with communal lounge, kitchen, bathroom and access to study rooms and shared laundry facilities. There is an outdoor swimming pool open during the warmer months and residents have access to a recreational social space with a stereo system, wide screen plasma television, pay TV, DVD, lounge suites, coffee tables, piano and table tennis. Three outdoor covered barbeque areas make an ideal location for casual resident gatherings. International House - Standard International House has 218 standard rooms which are configured in 5, 6 and 10 share units. They each have a fully furnished lockable room which includes a bed, large desk and lots of storage space. International House is a semi-catered residence. Included in the weekly price is 5 dinners per week, Monday to Friday. In 2015 the University of Newcastle will see the opening of an exciting new residential development on our Callaghan campus. This new offering will almost double our residential community, making it easier than ever before for students to gain the unique experience of on-campus living. Consisting of four multi-story residential buildings, this innovative design enables student living in a variety of configurations including self-contained studio apartments and, one, two, five and six bedroom share apartments. In addition, the development incorporates social and recreational spaces as well as formal and informal study areas. These areas have been designed to enhance the student learning experience and will include high-speed wi-fi Internet connection. Other amenities will include common rooms, communal kitchen, barbecue areas and multi-purpose rooms including a music room and a movie room. 8 How to apply On-campus accommodation is a very popular living option for University of Newcastle students so you should apply as early as you can, before you receive your study option if possible. Applications for 2015 residency open on October 1, Applicant Criteria You have applied to become a student or are already enrolled at the University of Newcastle.
