4 Ft. Lauderdale Executive Tower History In 1972, the current Ft. Lauderdale Executive Tower was completed and the operation and funding for Air Traffic Services at Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport was transferred from the City of Fort Lauderdale to the Federal Aviation Administration. Prior to 1972, the control tower was located atop Lockhart Stadium and funded totally by the City of Fort Lauderdale. The previous tower was only 37 high at the floor of the tower cab. This restricted controller visibility of the airport movement area. At 40+ years old, it was well beyond its projected useful life. Because of these issues, a new tower began construction in March of 2012, and was commissioned on November 4, It is approximately 85 to the floor of the tower and located about 50 west of the old location. 4

5 Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport is South Florida's premier general aviation facility. It places corporate and business travelers right in the heart of one of the nation's best areas to live and work plus some of Florida's most popular attractions. Centrally located in the heart of the Uptown Business District, just minutes from downtown, the airport offers easy access to I-95 and the Florida Turnpike and all of the area's major attractions and events. The airport has six (6) full-service fixed-base operators, a 24-hour FAA Air Traffic Control Tower, an Instrument Landing System, U.S. Customs & Border Protection Service, an Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Station, a police substation and 24-hour contract security. Prior to 9/11/2001, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport served over 200,000 aircraft operations per year, was one of the busiest General Aviation airports in the country. Because of effects on general aviation training, the number of annual operations has reduced to 158,000 per year. There are over 700 aircraft, including 115 jets and 37 helicopters that make the Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport their year-round home. The mix of jet aircraft, single engine aircraft, twin engine aircraft and helicopters, along with having only one (1) Instrument runway and one (1) crossing, non-instrument runway, make FXE a challenge for Air Traffic Controllers. 7 Ft. Lauderdale Executive Tower Leadership Team Robert Howard, Air Traffic Manager Mr. Howard joined the FAA in 1983 as Air Traffic Control Specialist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also achieved Certified Professional Controller status at MIA. He has held several management positions at MIA, FLL and PBI. He became ATM at FXE in Natalie Cerasuolo, Front Line Manager Ms. Cerasuolo joined the FAA in She served as an Air Traffic Controller in U. S. Air Force at Eglin AFB, Ft. Walton Beach, FL before joining the FAA. She started her FAA career in Mobile, Alabama. Later Ms. Cerasuolo transferred to Fort Lauderdale Tower before coming to FXE in Rich Rubenstahl, Front Line Manager Mr. Rubenstahl joined the FAA in He started his career at the Indianapolis ARTCC. Since then he has also worked at LAF, HUF, CAK and YNG Air Traffic Control Towers. He was promoted to Front Line Manager when he moved to FXE ATCT in September

8 Our Expectations of All Employees Ft. 9 Policies Reporting for Duty Employees are to report for their assigned shift on time. If a situation arises that will prevent you from reporting on time, call the Front Line Manager at Hours of Duty Operational personnel are assigned to work 8 hour shifts unless assigned an administrative day. Employees working an 8 hour shift are subject to immediate recall. Employees working an 8 hour shift may not leave the facility during their shift unless they have obtained management approval. Employees working an 8.5 hour shift may leave the facility for their 30 minute unpaid lunch break after obtaining management approval. Parking Secured parking is provided via the security/fence system. Security An FAA ID badge will be issued to all employees, and shall be worn above the waist and visible at all times while working at or visiting an FAA facility. Any loss, theft, or damage must be reported to your Front Line Manager for replacement processing through the FAA Security Division. 9

Guests and Visitors Guests and visitors to the facility will be required to show a photo ID card for entry, must sign FAA Form , DOT/FAA Visitor Register, and will be issued a temporary visitor badge. Any foreign/national visitors must have prior approval before their scheduled visit. All guests and visitors must be escorted at all times while in the facility. Cell Phones Cell phones are not permitted to be on in the tower cab. 10
