Radiant 24-Volt heating: the ultrathin, high performance, eco-friendly solution for floors, walls, ceilings and bathrooms Innovation Award Category Habitat by Saint-Gobain in Paris
Wall heating: M-Therm 24-volt wall heating is a state-of-the-art heating solution that is invisible, economical, safe, userfriendly, flexible and extremely comfortable. With a thickness of only 0.5mm, M-Therm disappears behind plaster, wallpaper, paint or textured wall finishes. With M-Therm there is no limit to the creativity of your interior design. Like a ray of sun in your living room: enjoy natural and healthy radiant heat! An invisible radiant heating system. M-Therm has perfected a relatively new technology consisting of extremely thin heating foils (half a millimetre thick) covered with a felted layer, which can be glued to the wall like wallpaper. The foils disappear under the final wall finish. Bulky radiators are a thing of the past! Comfort and Performance. M-Therm generates a pleasant, natural, and healthy radiant heat. Thanks to the high energy-efficiency of the heating material, energy is directly transformed into radiant heat. Efficiency at its best! In 2009 M-Therm wall heating was awarded a 1st Prize for Innovation (in the Home category), by Saint-Gobain in Paris.. Comfort and Health Benefits. Radiant heating warms the surface of the objects in the room evenly, exactly like the sun does. To understand how this works, imagine you are outside on a very cold day. Stand first in the shade and then in the sun: you immediately feel the sun s warmth on your skin, even though the air temperature is still cold. M-Therm generates the same kind of radiant heat, and creates the same instantaneous feeling of comfort. As a result, room temperatures as low as C feel pleasantly warm. The health benefits are obvious: the room is evenly warmed without the overheating, blowing or drying effect of conventional systems, providing relief for allergy sufferers especially. The principle of radiant heat and its distribution from a large surface allows all the walls, ceilings and floors in the house to be heated harmoniously and evenly. Cold spots are banished, and with them the condensation and damp that so often lead to mould and saltpetre growth. Safety and Simplicity. M-Therm heating foils can be installed by many different trades people, such as painters, decorators, drywall installers, plasterers, stucco masons, etc. No specialised electrical training is required as the heating system can simply be plugged in to an existing 220V electrical outlet. The transformer then feeds a 24-volt current through the panels. The low-tension current ensures risk-free installation and operation, while allowing you to hang paintings and other objects on the wall. Our heating systems provide an unrivalled feeling of comfort.
Ceiling heating: Ceiling heating is installed and works in much the same way as wall heating. The ceiling radiates heat gently throughout the room, warming the floor, walls, furniture and people. Ceiling systems are generally installed when there is not enough wall surface available. They are therefore particularly useful for attic rooms with sloped ceilings. Ceiling heating: a solution for every situation, but especially useful for attic spaces. Floor heating: Thanks to its thickness of only 0.5mm, M-Therm 24-volt floor heating is ideal for both renovations of older buildings and new building construction. The floor surfaces in your living room, bedrooms, children's playroom or hallways can be heated to a maximum of 29 C. Floor heating has become increasingly popular in recent years. The efficiency of M-Therm floor heating is comparable to that of hot water floor heating but it is much easier, faster and cheaper to install. It can be installed during construction or retrofitted, which is usually not possible with conventional systems. The ultra-thin heating foils are simple and cost-efficient to install, both in new buildings and renovations. There is a wide range of floor coverings to choose from: floating or glued solid wood parquet, stratified parquet or cork. Floor coverings must be classified suitable for floor heating systems by the manufacturer (i.e. with a thermal resistance (R) of 0.17 m2 K/W or less). Some thick carpets and flooring with built-in sound or heat insulation are therefore unsuitable. For constant and even heat distribution we recommend placing heating foils under at least 80% of the floor. Bask in the warmth of a perfectly heated room.
There is nothing more enjoyable and pleasant than being able to walk on cozily warm tiles. We have the solution against cold feet! Tile floor heating: Is there anything more pleasant than walking barefoot on warm tiles in your bathroom, kitchen, or other tile-floored rooms of your home? We have the ideal solution against cold feet: M-Therm s digital room thermostat allows you to programme the exact temperature and heating times of your room according to your needs, in half-hour increments, every day of the week... It s child s play!. Because the heating foils are installed directly under the tiles, the heat is felt immediately on the tile surface before radiating out to warm the entire room. Ultrathin heating foils are an ideal solution for bathroom renovations. The panels are glued to the floor then covered with tiles. They are so thin that there is no noticeable difference in floor height. Rooms with poor or non-existing floor insulation require more energy and more time to heat the floor and the room. For best results, we recommend adding a layer of insulation before installing the heating system and tiles. A warm floor in your bathroom whenever you want it. Programming the heating schedule is child s play! Maximum energy efficiency and durable technology. An example of a possible installation: All our systems are absolutely maintenance-free and their lifespan is practically unlimited! Experience the unrivalled comfort of floor heating in your bathroom!
Our system is highly eco-friendly: it converts energy directly into heat without losses and without producing any C02 Energy consumption: Energy consumption depends on the type of building, the desired room temperature in the heating phase, the nighttime setback temperature as well as climatic conditions. Based on a temperature of 20 C in the house from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and a nighttime temperature of 16 C, average energy consumption according to the type of house is estimated as follows: Passive house (very high energy efficiency) 15 kwh/m²/yr 3-litre house (high energy efficiency) 30 kwh/m²/yr Low-energy house (well insulated) 50 kwh/m²/yr Insulated house kwh/m²/yr Older house (uninsulated) 120 kwh/m²/yr kwh/m²/yr = consumption of kilowatt hours per square meter of room space per year The system s energy efficiency is optimised by installing a digital thermostat in every room. The system can then be programmed according to your needs, for instance by setting it to a lower temperature at night or while you are away, which results in real and significant energy savings. A heating system for the future. M-Therm s high energy-efficiency makes it a very eco-friendly heating solution. The energy fed into the heating foils is directly converted into heat, without energy loss and without producing any CO2. Because the heating foils are located directly under the wall, floor or ceiling covering, response times are significantly reduced. This saves energy, time, and money. Combined with renewable energies, M-Therm heating is a solution for today that meets the standards of tomorrow. Because they operate on 24-volt low-tension current, our systems are guaranteed safe to install and operate. M-Therm heating systems are absolutely maintenance-free. Their heating capacity will remain constant even after years of use. The heating panels come with a 10-year-warrantee, and all other components have a 5-year warrantee. The components of the heating system consist of the heating panels, a transformer, a digital thermostat, a floor sensor (for some floor heating systems) and a set of cables. The components: wall, ceiling, tile or floor heating panels, transformer, thermostat and cable set.
Applications for M-Therm heating systems: Well insulated houses Renovations of old houses Attic conversions Basement conversions Living areas and bathrooms Flexible application on walls, ceilings and floors Stand-alone or complementary heating Mould- or saltpetre-prone areas (wall heating) Advantages of the M-Therm heating systems: All heating systems are CE-certified (TüV Rheinland, registration no. AN ) All M-Therm heating systems can be combined with each other Feel the rays of the sun in your living room: the same feeling of warmth and comfort can be obtained with temperatures 2-3 C lower than conventional heating systems (gas, oil, electricity, etc.) for an energy saving of around 20%! Direct heat without long lead times: saves money and energy! Optimised heating comfort thanks to individual digital controls: heat only when necessary. This also saves energy! Very high energy-efficiency: energy is directly converted into heat, without energy losses. Studies have shown that our systems consume up to 50 % less energy than conventional radiator/convector systems. No CO 2 -emissions 24 Volt low-tension system: safe installation and operation guaranteed Invisible heating by vanishingly thin heating foils (0.5 mm) Maintenance-free heating system with an almost unlimited lifespan No drying or blowing action: particularly suitable for allergy sufferers! No more bulky radiators Saves space: no more fuel tanks or furnaces No more furnace chimney and no chimney sweeping costs Professionally planned and installed Easy to install in both new and renovated houses Made in Germany No CO 2 Green electricity friendly M-Therm heating systems can be installed in a few hours by a certified company in your area, without major building work. These professionals will be happy to advise you and recommend suitable wallpaper, paint, textured finishes, tiles, parquets and so on.
