1 Autumn Term 1 KS3 - CITIZENSHIP / P.H.S.E. Year 9 Outline Scheme of Learning Citizenship activity in School Session Nat Curriculum 1 Key Concept: Rights & Responsibilities 2 Key Concept: Democracy & Justice 3 Curriculum opportunity- student voice. 4 Key Process: Critical 5 Key Process: Taking 6 Key Process: 7 Curriculum opportunitycommunity partners Set ground rules (Respect agenda) for course, Recap Rights & Responsibilities from Y8 and add Respect & Rules. Model and apply this in the classroom setting. Emphasis on listening. Recap 4 R s (incl: Respect & Rules). Explain key differences between Democracy & Dictatorship and apply to classroom setting. Outline poster tasks and pick best for display. Explain Active Citizenship and outline School project. Identify tasks. School Project 2. Research and planning action. Encourage students to seek answers to quiz. ( A possible cover lesson.) Monitor actions, facilitate appropriate e- mails. Permission to collect signatures? Prepare for Governors visit outline role and students tasks. Send best power points etc to governor(s). Introduce Governor and provide prompts, manage students contributions and apply respect agenda. Citizenship is.? Activity in groups to complete sentence. Present group answers to class. Practise listening to each other. In small groups complete schools & prisons poster exercise. Create list of rules for teacher to follow and list of approved punishments. Use IT to create best poster. Decide on top hates in groups. Class voting activity to find top 10. Decide on group priorities for change. Research power and authority in school to complete Quiz. Identify and contact representatives on school council. (use of Internet would help) Students work on posters / power points / petitions. Which can be displayed, e- mailed, collected etc. Students complete activity and can submit PowerPoint s / Posters / Petitions etc to teacher to to school governor(s). Number 8 Sex & Relationship Education 1 Work with Health Professional to deliver pre-planned content. Group and whole class activities based on APAUSE manual. APAUSE manual Lets Talk Recap and Implement Respect agenda. Students to demonstrate listening skills and respect for Nurse and each other. 9 Sex & Relationship Education 2 Love & Sex manual 10 Sex & Relationship Education 3 Couples 11 Learning Styles 1 Critical Thinking. manual Ask students to organise themselves in a line according to intelligence. Outline different intelligences. (if time move onto IT room) 12 Learning Styles 2 Use web sites (on network) to measure and apply Multiple Intelligences. 13 Careers 1 Organise small groups of students to visit careers library ideally with short talk by connections advisor. Test IT! Facilitate completion of Careers booklets interview some one. 14 Careers 2 Continue with above if necessary. Ask students to complete evaluation / assessment exercise 1. Identify problems with this and suggest alternatives. Students to form groups according to their best intelligence. Students complete test and print out own M.I. profile. Then students can try activities for each intelligence. Students use Kudos programme to identify possible careers. The start on my progress file (on network). Interview activity students to do over holidays. Students continue my progress file and consider options choices for Jan. Complete evaluation / assessment exercise 1.
