1 PAGE: Page 1 of 14 First Time Installation Instructions Windows 8 Cadwell Purchased Computer If you purchased your computer from Cadwell, all necessary Windows and Sierra Summit software has already been installed. There is no need for you to install any software. Please put the installation disc in a safe place, it is included as a back-up copy only. Non-Cadwell Purchased Computer If your computer is from a source other than Cadwell, you must perform the installation steps detailed below. Step 1: Minimum Computer Requirements Prior to installing the Sierra Summit software, please verify that your computer meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements needed to run this software. If you need assistance in determining your computer s system specifications, please contact the Cadwell Application Support department at (509) Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit) Processor: Intel Core i3, 2.4 GHz Hard Disk: 80 GB free space Memory: 4.0 GB Graphics: 1366 x 768 resolution USB Ports: 1 available USB 2.0 or 3.0 Network: 100 Base-T or Wireless for LAN access You must be logged in to the computer with full Administrator permissions in order to configure the computer and to properly install the Sierra Summit software. You should also temporarily disable anti-virus and internet security programs before performing installation, as these programs can interfere with the installation of the software drivers.

2 PAGE: Page 2 of 14 Step 2: Configure Windows 8 For optimum performance, several settings within Windows 8 need to be adjusted. Follow the instructions in document xxx Configuring Windows 8 for Sierra Summit-Ascent.pdf. This document is available from the Support-EMG/NCV/EP page of the Cadwell website ( or from the Documents folder on the installation disc. Step 3: Install QuickReport and Sierra Summit Software 3.1 Insert the Sierra Summit Software Installation disc (Cadwell P/N ) into the DVD/CD drive. The Sierra Setup window will be displayed. You may need to select Run SierraSetup.exe from the AutoPlay window. 3.2 Select the Sierra Summit system tab. 3.3 Install the QuickReport program by clicking on the Install QuickReport button. Follow the on-screen instructions. Use the default destination directory C:\Cadwell\QuickReport. 3.4 Install the Sierra Summit program by clicking on the Install Sierra Summit button. Follow the on-screen instructions. Note: If you are setting up a Reader Station, use the Install Summit Reader button. This will automatically disable the communication error message at program launch.

3 PAGE: Page 3 of The CadLink Client will be automatically installed first. 3.6 For the Sierra Summit software installation, use the default destination directory C:\Cadwell\Sierra Summit. Click Next, and then click Finish.

4 PAGE: Page 4 of Install Device Drivers. After finishing the Sierra Summit installation you will be prompted to install device drivers. Click the Next button, and then click the Finish button.

5 PAGE: Page 5 of After the device driver installation is complete the Sierra Setup window will be displayed, click on the Close button. You can now remove the installation disc from the DVD/CD drive; you will not need to use any of the other buttons shown in the setup menu. 3.9 Restart the computer. Step 4: Connect the Summit Base Unit, Power Up, and allow USB drivers to be installed 4.1 Connect the Sierra Summit Base Unit to the computer using the USB-A to USB-B cable that was provided with the unit. Connect the USB-B end of the cable to the To-PC port on the back of the base unit, and then connect the USB-A end of the cable to any available USB port on the computer. 4.2 Switch on the power to the base unit. Windows will detect several new USB devices in the base unit and will automatically configure these devices. You will need to wait seconds for all of these devices to complete their installation. Note: This only occurs the first time you connect and power-up the base unit. Step 5: Configure the Summit Speakers Note: Skip this step if you are setting up a Reader station. 5.1 From the Desktop, open the Control Panel. 5.2 Click on the Sound item. 5.3 The Summit s base unit speakers will be listed as Speakers-USB audio CODEC.

6 PAGE: Page 6 of Select this entry and then click on the Properties button. 5.5 Change the name from Speakers to Summit Speakers. 5.6 Click the Change Icon button, and then select the round speaker icon. Click OK. 5.7 Click Apply, and then click OK. 5.8 The sound window should look like the following picture. This will make it easier to identify the speakers from within the Sierra Summit program.

8 PAGE: Page 8 of 14 Step 6: Setup Permissions for QuickReport 6.1 From the Desktop, right click on the QuickReport icon. 6.2 Select Run as Administrator. 6.3 In the QuickReport login window; choose SierraUser with no password and click OK. 6.4 The main QuickReport window will be displayed; the available report templates are shown on the left. 6.5 Close QuickReport by clicking on the X. Step 7: Edit the properties of the Sierra Summit shortcut icon. 7.1 From the Desktop, right click on the Sierra Summit icon. 7.2 Select Properties. 7.3 Click on the Compatibility tab. 7.4 Check the box Run this program as an administrator.

10 PAGE: Page 10 of 14 Step 8: Verify the Base Unit connection and Version Numbers 8.1 Start the Sierra Summit program. Login using the Admin account (the default password is admin). 8.2 When the program starts, it will display the message: Your user settings have not been initialized. Would you like this to be done now? Click the Yes button. If you receive a communication error message, click the Close button. Verify the USB connection between the computer and the base unit and try starting the Sierra Summit program again. 8.3 From the Help menu, select About Sierra.... The About Sierra Summit window will be displayed. 8.4 The Sierra Summit software version is shown at the top of the window and should be version Several system components will be listed in the Device-Index section, this list will vary depending on your base unit options.

Step 9: Select the default speakers 9.1 From the File menu, select System Setup. 9.2 Click on the Audio Setup button. 9.3 For the setting EMG Audio Device (Live & Playback), click the drop-down arrow and change the selection from Windows Default Device to Summit Speakers (USB audio CODEC). This is the sound device that was configured in Step Click OK to close the Audio Setup window. 9.5 Click OK again to close the System Setup window. Step 10: Activate the Software License and verify installed Options 10.1 From the Help menu, select About Sierra Activate the software license by choosing either the Online or Over-The-Phone option: Online Activation (requires Internet access): a) Connect the computer to the internet. b) Click on the Upgrade button. c) Select the Online option.

12 PAGE: Page 12 of 14 d) Enter the License ID (this code should either be written on the installation disc or sales order). e) Click the Activate button. Online activation Phone Activation (no Internet access): a) Click on the Upgrade button. b) Select the Over The Phone option. c) Call the Cadwell Customer Service Department at (509) Give your License ID and User Code to the Cadwell representative. The License ID should be written on the installation disc or sales order. d) The Cadwell representative will then give you an Activation Code. Enter this code into the Activation box. e) Click the Activate button. Phone activation

13 PAGE: Page 13 of The License ID should now be displayed at the bottom of the About Sierra Summit window, rather than Trial Mode Verify the Software Options. Compare the enabled options to the options specified on the sales order Close the About Sierra window, and then close the Sierra Summit program. Step 11: Remove Permissions from the Sierra Summit shortcut icon. 7.1 From the Desktop, right click on the Sierra Summit icon. 7.2 Select Properties. 7.3 Click on the Compatibility tab. 7.4 Un-Check the box Run this program as an administrator. 7.5 Click the Apply button, and then click the OK button. QuickReport Login (stand-alone) If you launch QuickReport without the Sierra Summit program running you will get a Login window. For the ID, select SierraUser from the drop-down list, leave the password empty and click OK. Factory Defaults If you would like to configure your system with the most recent factory default settings, test protocol layouts, and report templates, perform a RESTORE-ALL function using one of the preserve files on the installation disc. The preserve files are located in the Defaults folder and are labeled as 2 Ch Summit Defaults v1.1.prs and 12 Ch Summit Defaults v1.1.prs.
