4 Stem-changing verbs: pensar, querer and preferir In addition to changing in the ending when the verb is conjugated, there are some verbs that change in the stem in all forms except the nosotros. This results in a boot shape in the chart, where the verb has changed. Write the conjugation chart in these two grids, then, draw a boot around the changes. PENSAR, QUERER and PREFERIR all change from a E > IE in their roots, except in the nosotros form. Remember: CHANGE THE ROOT IN THE BOOT! Pensar : to think or to plan Querer: to want Preferir: to prefer You try it. 5 Demonstrative Adjectives You use demonstrative adjectives to specify which noun you are referring to: THIS coat, THAT shirt, THOSE boots, THESE skirts. As you could have guessed, demonstrative adjectives agree in number and gender with the nouns they describe. Here s the chart: this these that those masculine este estos ese esos feminine esta estas esa esas Notice that when you use este, esta, estos, and estas, you will be referring to something closer to you. You might want to associate the word aquí with these demonstrative adjectives. When you use ese, esa, esos, and esas, you will be referring to something farther away. You might want to associate the word allí with these demonstrative adjectives. It might help you to remember that the ones with a t in them are close enough to TOUCH.
