Brazilian Soy Management Program For Economic, Social and Environmental issues Organization:
What is Soja Plus? It s a Program designed to: Increase the competitiveness of the Soybean industry in Brazil Achieve better sustainability conditions on 3 pillars: Economic, Social and Environment. The Program s main objective is a constant improvement of the Sustainability of the Soybean industry in Brazil. Soja Plus Program takes coordinated actions among the Soybean chain actors, like: Farmers and Industry, Public Sector and Civil Society
Soja Plus is NOT: A Certification Program Certification is NOT one of our Objectives Abiove and Aprosoja will work with Soja Plus as a mainstream Program, trying to include all the industry. Certification may be achieved, but it will be a personal decision of the Farmers. Based on Premiums and other benefits Soja Plus is not trying to be an option to any other Program, like Responsible Soy, Terra Certification and others. We are working to help all the soy industry members to get in compliance with the Brazilian laws and rules Mainly Environment and Labor
How do we work? We started in 2011 with Soybean farmers of Mato Grosso State It s an OPEN and FREE Program, and the farmers have to agree to be part of the Soja Plus. Once they join Soja Plus, a series of information and trainnings will be provided for the farmer and his employees, on how to get in compliance with Brazilian Legislation on Safety and Environment. The farmer will decide the pace he will make the changes and adaptations at his farm, based on his investment capacity. The TRUST on his Association is KEY to have more and more farmers included. Now the Soja Plus Program is expanding to other states: Mato Grosso do Sul Bahia Minas Gerais
Some examples of how do we work Meetings and Trainings for farmers and their employess on Safety rules at the farms. Objectives: - Call Atention on Safety rules at the farm work, avoiding accidents. - Training for working in confined spaces and working at height 81 training courses 1,620 participants 3 States: MT, MS, MG
Some examples of how do we work Field Days with Farmers to present Soja Plus Program and motivate them to participate 12 Field Days 4,630 participants
Some examples of how do we work Seminars Challlenges and Opportunities for Brazilian Soybean Industry Objective: Present to and discuss with the Civil Society and some other stakeholders the initiatives on Soja Plus Program, to achieve an Industry Economically Viable, Socially Equitable and Environmentally Friendly. São Paulo - April 2011 Cuiabá March 2013 Brasília - April 2012 São Paulo November 2014
Some examples of how do we work Trainings trough SENAR on Health and Safety on a Farm Objective: Training farmers and employees to improve management on Health and Safety at the farm Trainings 392 participants Trainings 213 participants Trainings 283 participants Trainings 263 participants Total: 1,152 Trained People in Mato Grosso
Some examples of how do we work Development of Management Tools Objective: Support Farmers with innovative tools to help them on the Soja Plus Program goals Manuals and Documents with Brazilian Rules The farmer keeps a collection of books and Manuals with the main rules for consultation at the Farm.
Some examples of how do we work Development of Management Tools Objective: Support Farmers with innovative tools to help them on the Soja Plus Program goals Manual for Buildings Construction at the Farm - Help farmers to get in compliance with the law and rules on farm buildings, like: - Canteen - Employees Housing - Diesel Tank - Shop - Etc...
Some examples of how do we work Development of Management Tools Video Collection: To present and discuss with the employees, calling their attention to Safety rules on different working situations. Daily Dialogue on Safety How to Handle Agrochemicals Safely Daily Dialogue on Safety How to Prevent Accidents with Machinery
What we already did? Farm Visits Objective: Help Farmers start and follow up with the changes From April /12 to Sep/ farms attended 1,547 visits
What we already did? Farm visits since 2012 West: 250,455 ha 608 farms visited in MT Hectares: 1.3 million North: 345,692 ha East: 157,468 ha Plus 67 farms in MS and 10 farms in MG Considering soy yield of 3.1 tons per hectare in Mato Grosso state, the Soja Plus Program already reached 4.03 MMT of Soybeans. Mid North: 337,227 ha South: 219,039 ha 17% of Mato Grosso Soy Production

Forestry Code Brazilian Environmental Law By May 2015, all the farmers in Brazil will have to have the Environmental Registry (CAR) Soja Plus Action: Help Farmers register they farms, with concentrated efforts on counties with less CARs. Mato Grosso CAR Situation by County MT - CAR Situation Total Area demanding CAR: 48.7 million ha Farms with CAR Percentage Area already Registered: 42.8 million ha 87.3%

CAR Environmental Registry of the Farm Demands a Satellite Image of the farm showing where the Protected Areas and the Farming areas are located. After the Environmental Registry Farmers will have to sign an Agreement with the Government telling what they will do to be in compliance with the law, mainly on Legal Reserves and Permanent Preservation Areas. If this is the case...
