unlock a child s potential
UK Charity We unlock the potential of some of the world s most marginalized children by breaking down barriers and working in partnership with local communities in the developing world to help improve children s access to health, education, child rights and protection. To date, our projects have reached out to over 700,000 people overseas. The right to be heard: Daksha s Story. Daksha s destiny was set out for her at the early age of 5 when her father arranged her marriage. Her prospective husband left school when he was 12 years old, so Daksha was encouraged to do the same. At this time, she joined the Balsena team, where she realised that she should go back to school, and so, snuck out to school each day without her father s knowledge. With the help of a member of Balsena staff and the other children, her father eventually signed the school admission form. At the age of 19, she now is studying at college and has delayed her wedding. She also works as a volunteer for the project, helping children in similar situations.
Where do the donations go? 25 covers the cost of running 1 Balsena (Children s Collective) team for a whole year in India, promoting for children s views to be heard 250 allows us to provide a community awareness programme on child labour for 6 months in India 50 pays for a visit to all households in 2 villages in Nepal by a group of survivors and counsellors, increasing awareness and knowledge to parents on child trafficking 300 allows us to buy the all the materials (bleach, iron and water bottles) required to install the solar light in 240 households in Tanzania 100 allows us to measure the impact of our Litre of Light project on the children in Tanzania for a whole year 400 provides a year s worth of My School My Voice workshops in 4 primary schools in Tanzania 200 allows us to establish and launch our My School My Voice programme at 4 primary & secondary schools in Nepal 500 covers the cost of accommodation and food for 10 teachers during teacher training sessions in Nepal
Bag Packing: Contact your local supermarket to get permission to pack grocery bags for their customers but make sure you do it as soon as possible as spots run out quick. If you can get your friends along, you can cover loads of tills and maximise your fundraising potential! Contact Childreach International to get your permission and authorisation forms Family Fun Day: Host an outdoor fair with games and activities suitable for the whole family. Include games, sports activities, art and craft stalls, food markets, the list is endless. Sell tickets on the day and before the day of the event at a discounted price and Don t forget to advertise your event in the local media and around town in the weeks before! Raffle Sales: Host a party where everyone buys raffle tickets for prizes and everyone gets 1 free raffle ticket - If theirs is drawn, they have to do something funny, silly or embarrassing! Sell tickets before the day of the event and provide drinks and snacks for a small charge. Make sure to advertise the raffle event around town with posters and flyers so that lots of people show up! Barbeque: When it comes to fundraising, one of the most popular ways of catching people s interest is to offer food. You can host a barbeque, inviting your close friends for a delicious meal and you can charge people to attend Coffee Morning: Host a coffee morning at home or somewhere around town to catch up with your friends. Provide small snacks for a small fee to further maximise your fundraising potential! Holiday Party: Host a party to have show some holiday spirit with friends, family and co-workers. Create a theme for the party depending on the time of year, so you can host a Halloween party in October, a Christmas party in December and/or an Easter party in April. Advertise your party around town the week beforehand to attract more people!
Ebay Sales: Look around your house to see if there are any unwanted items that you could sell for donations. Ask your family and friends as well to have a quick look as well the more items you have to sell the more successful your fundraising will be! Make sure to find a spot that is easily accessible for the public! 200 Sponsored Sports: Ask your friends to sponsor you to do a sports activity. For instance, a friend can sponsor you to walk, run, cycle or swim a certain distance. The longer you stay active for, the more money your friends need to donate! Sell Your Skills: As I m sure there are many skills (drawing, playing an instrument, cooking, etc.) that you are great at, why not host a workshop or hire yourself out to teach other s what you know! This way you are helping others improve their skills and raising funds for a great cause at the same time! Quiz Night: Host a quiz night at your house, a pub or a venue, inviting family and friends to take part for a charge. The quiz questions can be based around the issue that you are fundraising for, so that you raise awareness and fundraise at the same time! Talent Show: Host a talent show where individuals wanting to take part in the show or those wanting to watch are charged a fee. You can make this a very interactive event by allowing your audience to choose who goes to the next round based on what act gets the loudest cheers from the audience! In this show, the acts can do anything from break-dancing to singing alongside their family pet dog. Advertise your event around town and on social media sites!
Garage Sale: Look around your house to see if there are any unwanted items that you could sell for donations. Ask your family and friends as well to have a quick look as well the more items you have to sell the more successful your fundraising will be! Make sure to find a spot that is easily accessible for the public! Give It Up: Encourage people to give up a luxury item for 1 week to see how much they could save without the little extras in life. A luxury item can refer to anything bought often that is not a necessity, for instance, your daily cups of take-away coffee, bar of chocolate, and so forth. Ask those involved to donate their savings to your cause. Sports Day: Charge people to take part in competitive activities against each other, with small prizes for the winners! You can include football tournaments, tug-of-war matches, volleyball games and so forth. Provide drinks and snacks at small stalls during the event to further increase your fundraising total! Night In: Enjoy a night in with your friends. Theres a range of activities you can do, such as watching films, holding a wine tasting event, play board games the list is endless! Make a short speech about why you are fundraising for Childreach International and ask your friends for donations. How to maximise your fundraising! In Your Office: Gather around and have a coffee or tea break, host an after work office social, do a job swap between people at work and get sponsored, host a dress down day, or host an office Olympics day with all donations going towards your fundraising total. Why not take a break the office and bond with your co-workers! Do a combination of things! If you are hosting a party, you can include an auction or raffle ticket sales, and you can sell drinks and snacks for a small fee. Sell tickets at a discounted price before the day of the event and sell full price tickets at the door. This way you can increase your ticket sales and you can keep up to date on the amount of people attending. Contact local businesses to gain support and sponsorships. You never know, your local deli may be able to sponsor a venue, food or drinks for your event and if not, hopefully a donation will be given to support your event
Organising an event Set a goal for yourself! What do you want to achieve through your event? Set a target amount you want to raise, decide on your target audience, and research what you want the main focus of the event to be. Make sure to plan your event accordingly! Set a date, time and location for your event! Set a date and time that is most suitable for your target audience. The weekends or the holidays are always a great time to hold an event as you can attract many people. Also, if you are hosting an outdoor event, it may be best to hold the event during the day and remember to check the weather! Advertise and promote your event to as many people as possible! Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and different blogs and online forums are a great way to advertise your event. Also look into publishing a newspaper article, hanging posters around town and handing out information flyers. Let the whole world know! Budgeting is key! Keep your fundraising goal in mind when budgeting, guaranteeing that you raise that amount beyond the expenses. Do not hesitate to ask your family and friends for help with setting up, providing food and drinks, and overall support. Carry out a risk assessment! It is generally a good idea to have a run-through of your event before the day to guarantee it s a success! Childreach International Get in touch with our UK Events and Communtiy Fundraising Manager Alice Barley, to learn more about community fundraising and setting up your BT MyDonate page, at alice.barley@childreach.org,uk. 23 Hand Court London, WC1V 6JF United Kingdom Phone:
Organising an event During Be prepared! The day has finally arrived and it s your time to shine! Be prepared for anything that might come your away on the day. Arrive early to the event, set up the venue and check that everything you need is in working order. Good preparation leads to a successful event! Raise awareness! Have a short speech or presentation prepared to inform your audience on why you have organised this event and what you are raising awareness about. Also make sure to hand out flyers during the event to anyone who would like more information or is keen to get involved. Take pictures and videos! Pictures and videos are always a great way to keep memories and they are also very useful for any blog or article that you may write. Remember to always ask for consent before you take a picture or video! Fundraising! Today is the day to get your audience to make donations! Remind people on how important donations are, how they can donate and have collection tin s set up around your venue for anyone who would like to donate on the day.
Organising an event Congratulate yourself! Give yourself a pat on the back and celebrate the success of your fundraising event! Our work can only be done thanks to people like you who are actively involved so a massive thank you. Well done! Thank you! It s important for your supporters to know that their effort is appreciated so use social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube (and so forth) to thank those who supported your fundraising and attended your event. Your event would not have been a success without them! Donate your collected funds! Collected funds can be paid in online using your BT MyDonate page, via cheque and/or via bank transfer (see next page for details). We ask everyone to pay in their money within a week of their event, so it can help even children unlock their potential. Write about it! Tell your story! Share your passion and success with the world by writing a blog and posting it online or writing an article for your local news agency or local magazine. Alternatively, you can send your story to us at Childreach International and we will find a spot on our website to showcase your work!
Online donations The easiest and quickest way to donate your money from events is through your BT MyDonate Online Donations Page. Simply donate the money you have raised for us on to your own page! Gift Aid Gift Aid is a tool that charities can use to reclaim tax from donations and effectively get more money. This means that Childreach International can reclaim 25% of a donation made by a taxpayer (not including council tax or VAT). You can use gift aid for cheque donations that get directly sent to Childreach International. BT MyDonate provides the gift aid option online. Gift Aid will not be counted towards your fundraising total because it is not a guaranteed source of income. Bank transfers Please ensure your reference is your unique ID number, found on your original confirmation letter, and transfer your money to: Bank: NatWest Account Name: Childreach International Sort Code: Account Number: Cheques You can write a cheque made payable to Childreach International. We need to assign any cheques that you send in to your personal fundraising target, so make sure that you include a note within the envelope with the following details: Your name University group (if applicable) ID number (found on your original confirmation letter) Name and address of the donor(s) If this cheque is a donation from a UK taxpayer, why not ask them to fill out a Gift Aid Declaration Form, found in our Fundraising Toolbox, to add an extra 25% on to the total donated amount! Please include the Gift Aid slip in the same envelope. Public Raffle returns If you are conducting your own public raffle, then you will be covered by Childreach International s small society lottery license. After the draw, it is a legal requirement that you print off and fill in the Public Returns Form, signing also at Signature 1. Please then return the form to the London Office or it to fundraising@childreach.org.uk. Finance Team Childreach International 23 Hand Court London WC1V 6JF
Golden Rules of Fundraising City Councils Childreach international is responsible for arranging all city centre, major train station and London underground collections. We request that participants do not approach these categories themselves. A public collections page is available on your my:reach account. Please do not hesitate to look on childreach.org.uk for further information. You can also contact the Childreach International UK office for any further enquiries or support: alice.barley@childreach.org.uk or Town Councils You can arrange your own collections with town councils and other small settlements, so feel free to apply to your local town, borough or village to collect or run any public event. Get in touch with your local council to make sure your fundraising goes runs totally legally and without any issues! Private Property The easiest places to get permission to hold collections or events are on private property. Private property refers to everything that is not managed or in domain of the council, including supermarkets, pubs and bars, church halls, office buildings, and so forth. Get in touch with the landlord or owner of the settlement to get permission!
