1 MTI is a two and one-half day intensive hands-on institute for a select group of innovative health science teachers. The Institute will focus on: the National Healthcare Foundation Standards, classroom strategies for student engagement, pedagogy, technology, STEM, and the data driven classroom. Participants will be selected after completing an application process which includes a recommendation from the health science state lead and a school administrator. Up to four (4) nominations may be submitted from each state. A maximum of two (2) applicants will be selected from each state. There will be no registration cost for each selected participant of NCHSE member states. There will be a $300 registration fee for selected participants of nonmember states. Lunch will be provided each day; travel and lodging will not be covered by NCHSE. Each elite teacher will be trained and expected to redeliver acquired information in their home states and will be invited to present at the 2016 NCHSE National Health Science Curriculum Conference. Those teachers completing the Institute will receive a NCHSE Health Science Master Teacher certificate. The application is due May 1, 2015 to the state lead. Your participation in the Master Teacher Institute will allow you the opportunity to evaluate and strengthen your current methods and practices by: Experiencing the power of working with growth-focused, motivated, like-minded peers. Learning strategies to motivate and inspire other health science teachers through school, district, and state leadership. Designing hooks to stimulate topic interest, show subject relevance, and arouse curiosity. Identifying factors that a teacher can control to improve instruction and student learning. Applying guidelines for effective classroom functioning to create a productive learning environment and to work with different student behaviors. Receiving training on how to utilize the National Healthcare Foundation Standards in your curriculum. Application is due to your Health Science State Lead by May 1, 2015
