4 Terms and Conditions The enclosed list cancels all previous quotes, price lists, and availability listings. The prices listed herein are subject to change without prior notice. Material is offered subject to prior sale. To those with an established record for prompt payment or with satisfactory references, we are glad to extend our regular terms of 30 days from the date of invoice. A finance charge of 1.5% per month (18% annual rate) will be added to all accounts over 30 days. New customers are asked to fill out a credit application to establish a credit account with our company. First time orders are always C.O.D. Others will pay for stock on pickup or delivery. Orders for shipment C.O.D. must be accompanied by a remittance of 50% of the amount to ensure acceptance. Accounts with past due balances will not be processed until account balances are paid in full. All prices are F.O.B. Roseland, Inc. Sudlersville, Maryland. Freight charges are payable upon delivery unless other arrangements have been specified. All sales are charged Maryland State Sales Tax at a rate of 6% unless shipped out of state by the carrier. Your material will arrive live and in good condition, whereupon your responsibility begins. Complaints or adjustment requests will not be entertained unless a claim has been made at the time of delivery on the shipping receipt. We will not be responsible for any plant material not picked up within five (5) days of notification that the order is ready. We assume no liability for delays or failure to fill orders due to any causes beyond our control. All stock will be B&B, in galvanized wire baskets with non-treated burlap. 7 Maples Acer compestre Evelyn (Queen Elizabeth Maple) Tolerant of heavy pruning and dry compact soils. Typically has low branching and corky bark. Is useful in urban street sites under utility lines. Acer palmatum Bloodgood (Bloodgood Japanese Maple) Shape: upright, becoming broad topped with age Foliage: purple-red Fall Color: red Widely used, well known, and reliable, Bloodgood is the standard for comparison among the purple leafed, tree form Japanese maples. Acer palmatum dissectum Tamukeyama (Tamukeyama Japanese Maple) Shape: weeping Foliage: Laceleaf, deep purple-red Fall color: red Tamukeyama is outstanding among the laceleaf weepers for its rich foliage color. Leaves hold their deep purple color through the heat of summer better than other cultivars. 8 Acer rubrum Scarsen (Scarlet Sentinel Maple) A strong upright branch pattern gives Scarlet Sentinel an oval to rectangular outline and a bold appearance that makes it an excellent tree for streets and parking lots. Leaves are darker green and larger than those of other Red Maples, and they hold up well in summer heat. It is a very tall, narrow tree with ascending branches, and is widely used for street planting. Acer rubrum Autumn Blaze (Autumn Blaze Maple) A hybrid between Red and Silver Maple, it can be classified as Acer x fremannii. Combines the best features of both parents: the drought tolerance of Silver Maple and the fall color of Red Maple. Better branching habit than Silver Maple, though not as refined as Red Maple. Acer rubrum October Glory (October Glory Maple) October Glory is a round-headed selection which is the last cultivar to color in the fall. Acer rubrum Red Sunset (Red Sunset Maple) Red sunset is the most highly rated and reliable of the Red Maple cultivars. It is a vigorous growing tree with a strong and symmetrical branching pattern. The foliage is a very lustrous green in summer, changing to brilliant shades of red and orange-red in the fall. 9 Acer saccharum Green Mountain (Green Mountain Sugar Maple) Green Mountain is the standard for comparison in Sugar Maples. It is probably the best choice for northern areas. It provides reliable fall color. Acer truncatum Pacific Sunset (Pacific Sunset Maple) Sugar Maple Has nice glossy summer foliage and goes into fall with colors of yellow, red and orange. Pacific Sunset has a finer textured branch structure and is more spreading than the Norwegian Sunset. 10 Amelanchier lamarckii (Lamark Serviceberry) White flowers appear in April. Edible fruits are 3/8, sweet in flavor, turning purple-black at maturity. New leaves are copper colored and silky. Fall color is bronze-orange. Prefers acidic to neutral soils. It is heat and drought resistant and seems to be relatively free of disease and pest problems. Raspberry-like fruits appear in late summer among the light green leaves. Cornus kousa chinensis (Chinese Kousa dogwood) An unusual and beautiful dogwood. Seems to be hardier, more drought tolerant and more disease resistant than Cornus florida. Magnificent in flower when it is covered with large white blooms. Mottled bark adds to winter interest. 14 Cryptomeria Cryptomeria japonica Yoshino (Yoshino Cryptomeria) This excellent evergreen is the best of all the Cryptomeria for retaining its green color through the winter. It is excellent for use as a screen or a specimen plant. Cypress Cupressocyparis leylandii (Leyland Cypress) These trees are used as windbreaks. They are fast growing and very durable. The foliage is a medium green. Beautiful colors of yellow-orange to orange and deep purples. Seedless. Fraxinus pennsylvanica Patmore (Patmore Ash) Patmore is probably the best Green ash cultivar introduced to date. It has dark green, glossy foliage and a well behaved form. Extremely hardy and reported to be seedless. 14

16 Halesia Halesia monticola (Mountain Silverbell) Shape: ascending branches form a conical to rounded crown Foliage: medium green Fall color: yellow Flower: white, bell-shaped Clusters of snow-white bell shaped flowers borne on pendulous stalks appear in May. Hollies Ilex opaca (female) (American Holly) The old stand-by, native to America. Produces bright red berries and is quite versatile. We believe it s the finest holly grown. Varieties of American Hollies we grow: Miss Helen - Broad based holly, pyramidal in shape, oval shaped berries. Olive green foliage. Satyr Hill - Large olive green leaves, oval in shape, red berries. Paterson - Grows very narrow and upright. Has nice berries and foliage is dense. Ilex x Dr. Kassab (Dr. Kassab Holly) Another broad based pyramidal in shape with hardy red berries. Nellie Stevens Holly Ilex x Centennial Girl (Centennial Girl Holly) Pyramidal in shape with narrow deep green, matte foliage. Berries on this new holly are truly a spectacle well into early spring. Ilex meserveae ( Blue Maid, Blue Prince, Blue Princess Holly ) Both green and blue varieties have glossy serrated leaves. Females produce brilliant orange-red fruit in fall. It has bright yellow flowers that are in large clusters and its color in the fall is yellow Sweetgum Liquidambar styraciflua Cherokee (Cherokee Sweetgum) One of the fruitless sweetgum cultivars. Foliage is a nice dark green with smooth rounded leaves. Liquidambar styraciflua Rotundiloba (Rotundiloba Sweetgum) Shape: pyramidal Foliage: bright green, rounded lobes Fall color: orange to purple Fruit: Fruitless This is the only Sweetgum known to be entirely fruitless. Liquidambar styraciflua Worplesdon (Worplesdon Sweetgum) The Worplesdon has a broadly pyramidal to oval shape, it has a green foliage and in the fall it is orange and purple. 18

21 Tupelo Nyssa sylvatica Black Tupelo (Black Tupelo) Rich green glossy foliage ignites with brilliant fall tones, ranging from scarlet to maroon, yellow and orange. Fissured grey bark provides winter interest. Adaptable to urban conditions including compacted and poorly drained soils and occasional drought. s $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ London Planetree Platanus acerifolia Bloodgood (London Planetree) Naturally shedding bark creates a clapped brown and cream pattern that accentuates sunlight filtering through the foliage. This a widely used and very popular tree. London Planetree Platanus acerifolia Columbia (Columbia Planetree) It has attractive, deeply cut leaves similar to Orientalis. 22 Plums Prumus cerasifera Cripoizam (Crimson Point Plum) Shape: Columnar to narrow oval Foliage: Purple red to purple bronze Fall color: reddish Flower: pink buds, white flowers Pink buds open to white flowers that contract nicely with the emerging purple foliage. This outstanding columnar selection develops a narrowly oval mature canopy. Prunus ceraifera Krauter Vesuvius (Krauter Vesuvius Plum) This tree is very similar to Thundercloud in appearance, but is a little smaller and more upright. It tolerates hot dry weather, and seems to be the best flowering plum for southern California. Prunus ceraifera Thundercloud (Thundercloud Plum) Retains its purple foliage throughout the year. s $ $ $ $ $ Cherry Prunus serrulata Kwanzan (Kwanzan Cherry) Kwanzan s large double pink flowers make it the showiest cherry in the spring. Prunus Okame (Okame Cherry) Flowers very early, and the effective floral display is long lasting as the flower bud and calyx are brightly colored. Cherries Okame is a hybrid of P. incisa x P campanulata, originating in England and introduced to the U.S. by the Morris Arboretum. Prunus x yedoensis Akebono (Akebono Cherry) Similar to Yoshino, but said to mature slightly smaller, and has a stronger tint of pink in its bloom. 22

23 Prunus subhirtella Autumnalis Rosea (Autumn Flowering Cherry) Very unusual for its bloom. Flowers are produced in November and again in the spring. In mild climates it will bloom sporadically all winter. It has a delicate branch pattern which adds to its winter interest. Prunus x hillieri Spire (Spire Cherry) Spire is narrow and upright branching fills in for a nice appearance in the tree from the start. Prunus x yedoensis (Yoshino Cherry) A graceful, small tree with light pink to white flowers. This is the famous tree which encircles the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. s $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ Pears Pryrus calleryana Aristocrat (Aristocrat Pear) Narrow green leaves turning to deep red in the fall. Pryrus calleryana Chanticleer (Chanticleer Pear) Slopes upright, narrowly pyramidal with green glossy foliage. White clusters in the spring. Pyrus calleryana Holmford (New Bradford Pear) Shape: broadly oval to rounded Foliage: green, glossy Fall color: yellow to orange-red Flower: white This cultivar is similar in appearance to the well known Bradford, but it seems to be less susceptible to storm damage 23

Quercus alba (White Oak) One of the mightiest of the noble oaks, White Oak is claimed by several states as their official tree. Reputed to be slow growing, well-grown nursery plants grow fairly once established. Unlike English Oak, this native of Eastern North America is resistant to powdery mildew. Quercus bicolor (Swamp White Oak) Lustrous, heavy textured green leaves with wavy margins. Well adapted to wet, poorly drained soils. White Oak Quercus coccinea (Scarlet Oak) The habit of this tree is very similar to the Pin Oak. Has a brilliant red color in the autumn. Quercus imbricaria (Shingle Oak) Its foliage is dark green and glossy. Leaves turn yellowish in the fall. Quercus lyrata (Overcup Oak) Acid soil. Orange to red fall color. Adapts well to poor sites. 24

25 Quercus palustris (Pin Oak) Branches are long, slender and horizontally layered, giving this large tree an elegant appearance. Has beautiful fall color. Quercus palustris Pringreen (Green Pillar Oak) Shape: Narrowly columnar Foliage: dark green Fall color: deep red Fastigiate branching habit and a very dense, columnar shape makes this tree ideal for narrow street plantings. Pin Oaks Quercus phellos (Willow Oak) Long slender branches give this large tree a graceful appearance. The leaves are long and narrow. Quercus phellos (Hightower Oak) A cultivar of the Willow Oak species. Willow Oak Quercus robur x Q. abla Crimschmidt (Crimson Spire Oak) Shape: Columnar, tightly fastigiated Foliage: dark green to bluish-green Fall color: rusty red White oak parentage provides dark green, mildew resistant foliage and reddish fall color. Quercus rubra borealis (Red Oak) The Red Oak is a large, fast growing, broad headed tree. The leaves turn from green to deep red in the fall. Quercus shumardii (Shumard Oak) An excellent substitute for Scarlet Oak in the Central and S.E. USA. It thrives in moist, acid bottom land soils where poor drainage creates problems for other trees. 25

It is best suited for areas of the west where it provides welcome shade during hot dry summers. Spines are much reduced compared to species. Locust $ $ $ $ Willows Salix alba Tristis (Golden Weeping Willow) A large tree with graceful golden arching branches. Yellow bark and stems make this a tree of multi-seasonal interest. Ideal for wet conditions. Salix Prairie Cascade (Prairie Cascade Weeping Willow) Selected by the Morden Research station in Manitoba for cold hardiness. It combines a weeping habit, golden stems, and dark green glossy foliage. 26

Ulmus x Regal (Regal Lacebark Elm) The Regal is a fast growing tree and it has a Spanish green in color with a fall color that is reddish-purple. The tree is also tolerant to pests and diseases.
