1 As part of our chocolate topic, Year 4 took an amazing trip to York s Chocolate Story. Our day started with an interactive tour mapping out the history of chocolate, from the ancient Aztecs ceremonial worship of the cocoa bean to the Quaker families who made York our country s chocolate capital. We were shown how the cocoa beans are harvested and processed to make our bars and a real chocolatier demonstrated how to make truffles with a fruity centre. Of course, we also got a chance to make and decorate our own chocolate lollies and giant chocolate buttons and were even shown how to use all of our senses to taste chocolate professionally! Year 2 and Year 5 We had a wonderful trip to Raby Castle, exploring the site with our buddies. Everyone had a brilliant day, learning lots of facts and stories about this amazing castle. We explored the different 19 th century coaches, the maze gardens and the adventure playground. Well done everyone!

2 We have had a very busy half term in Year 1 learning all about different materials. We went on a trip to the Centre for Life where we made our own felt and tested materials to make carrier bags. We even had a chance to make our own crowns using a collage of different textured materials. It has been lots of fun! Year 6 We have been busy looking at lots of examples of biographies, thinking about what makes a good biography and writing our own biographies about our friends. We are very much looking forward to reading the final published works. So far, Year 6 have become famous philosophers, actors, Olympic gold medallists, novelists and inventors. I think you ll agree, we have a very talented and aspirational Year 6. Year Three has got off to a fabulous start this new academic year. We have really enjoyed looking at our topic of the Victorians. We enjoyed going to Killhope Lead Mine to learn about how some of the children in the North-East lived during the time of the Victorians. As well as this we have also enjoyed a brilliant buddy trip, with Year Six, to see the amazing Hetty Feather West End Tour at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle. It was great to be transported back to the Victorian times and find out about life in the foundling hospitals!

3 The first few weeks of the autumn term in Nursery have been a very busy and exciting time. It has been wonderful to welcome all the new children and their families to NPS and get to know them all. The children have settled happily into school life and are enjoying the new experiences and activities with great enthusiasm. We have been learning about the colours that are all around us. We have made red fish, blue balloons, green turtles and yellow rockets using a variety of paint and collage techniques as well as learning how to use pens, pencils and scissors skilfully you can see all the children s fantastic pictures on the displays in Nursery they are amazing! We have just started learning all about autumn and harvest and have collected some wonderful autumn leaves in the school gardens. We have painted some trees with leaves of yellow, red and brown falling to the ground. Mr Waller is helping us to sing a song all about the farmer harvesting his vegetables, which we will be performing during the school harvest celebrations. Supporting Percy Hedley On Saturday 7th November, Miss McCabe, Miss Stark, Mr Merrin, Miss Speirs and Katie will be taking part in The Twilight Zip to help raise funds for the Percy Hedley Foundation. 4 Reception have had a very busy term so far, meeting their new teachers exploring their new environment. The children have settled in brilliantly and have made lots of new friends. Our topic of Magical Journeys has taken us on lots of adventures including a magic carpet ride to Agraba with Aladdin and Never Land with Peter Pan (not forgetting a sprinkle of glittery fairy dust)! The children have enjoyed planning their own magical journey and creating their very own magical carpet. On Thursday 1st October the weather was perfect for the Northumberland Schools Cross Country races at Gateshead Stadium. Our teams of Year 5 and 6 runners were brilliant and huge congratulations to the Year 6 Girls Team who were the overall winners. Supper for Parents new to NPS Parents and staff enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by Shaun Dalton (NPS catering manager) and his excellent team. A great evening with fantastic food and plenty to talk about.

5 At the start of the new school year, our excited Year 5 children climbed on the school coach ready for the long awaited trip to Robinwood. The weather was glorious as the children met their course leaders and then hiked for two hours, eventually catching their first glimpse of the Robinwood Centre through the trees. The children were divided into three groups; Waterfall, Stream and Avalanche. Over the next three days, everyone had a chance to try out a wide range of activities including the Zip Wire, Night Walk, Climbing, Canoeing, Archery, Stream Walk, Trapeze, Giant Swing and of course, the dreaded Piranha Pool. The food was delicious and every evening, the children and staff met with the group leaders for games, rounded off with welcome mugs of hot chocolate before bed time. All too soon, it was time to head back to Newcastle and the coach returned with tired, but happy children. A wonderful way to start Year 5.

7 Mrs Cressey - 5C Form Teacher Miss Strong - 6S Form Teacher Ready, Steady, Cook Chartwells our caterers organised a brilliant event for Years 3-6. Expert chef, Mrs Cressey with her team, Deputy Head Girl Katherine and Deputy Head Boy Kunal challenged the renowned chef, Mr Waller with Head Girl Jemima and Head Boy Danny to produce delicious meals in just 15 minutes. The results were amazing and the final vote made Mrs Cressey and her team overall winners!

8 This Term tuck shop managers and School Council representatives met with Lisa from Fruit to Suit to try some new healthy snacks to sell at our tuck shop. The People s Kitchen Thank you for all your kind harvest donations. The food you have donated will help The People s Kitchen continue their hard work in providing a vital lifeline of food, friendship and a future to the most disadvantaged, homeless and vulnerable in and around Newcastle.
