1 April/May 2015 Newsletter Message from the Director Hello Families and Friends. We are fast heading towards the end of March and still the warner weather continues. Some families are finding the mornings a little cooler so we suggest adding a light jumper or long sleeve shirt to your child s bag. This year we will continue our Easter Bonnet Workshops. All families members are invited to join us on the Monday and Thursday the week prior to Easter. The Workshops will be held from 3.30 to 4.30 and all cardboard and craft items will be provided at the centre. The finale of our Easter events will be our Easter Bonnet Parade on Wednesday 31 st March at 10am. Everyone is invited to join for songs, the parade and a visit from our special chocolatey friend. Thank you to all our amazing families who supported the centre fundraising for the Leukaemia Foundation on Crazy Hair day. Next week we are hosting Purple Day in support of our beautiful girl Isabella. Isabella has been diagnosed with Epilepsy and all money raised will aid in research and support. Please come dressed in purple for a gold coin donation. Purple fun is guaranteed. Over the next few weeks we have some family members coming to visit Nerang Kids and share their expertise or passion. Our families and friends are encouraged to join us anytime to participate in the program. If you would like to join in but not sure how please ask your friendly educators. Kind Regards Julene

2 Important dates to remember.. Easter Egg Biscuits Recipe Ingredients: Packet Arnotts Milk Arrowroot Biscuits Easter Bonnet Parade Wednesday 1 st April. All welcome. ANZAC Day 25 th April Closed for: Good Friday 3 rd April Easter Monday 6 th April Japanese Children s Festival 5 th May Special festivities with Miss Akiko Mother s Day Celebrations 8 th May for a Morning Tea Nerang Family Expo Saturday 16 th May Lollies, sprinkles or hundreds and thousands for decorating 100g milk chocolate 100g white chocolate Method: Snap milk and white chocolate into squares and place in separate microwave safe bowls so you don't mix the two chocolates together. Microwave each bowl on low heat for 1 minute until the chocolate has almost melted. Stir, and repeat on the same setting for 10 seconds at a time if the chocolate needs more melting. When it's runny, carefully spoon it onto the biscuits and spread using a knife. Decorate with either lollies, sprinkles or hundreds and thousands. All staff members are currently involved in training to update their skills and knowledge. The courses range from upskilling their Cert 3 in Children s Services and workshops promoting new learning and skills.

3 Toddler s News Welcome to Autumn. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the children are smiling. The Toddlers have settled into our room with Miss Lex and Miss Wendy exploring and challenging their abilities and achievements with beaming smiles. We welcome our new friends Mila, Kai, Ricky and Chloe. We farewell our friend Ashton who is moving to the Junior Kindy room. Over the last month we have been establishing positive relationships with one another through verbal and nonverbal interactions. Saying hello giving eye contact smiles and cuddles. This encourages a strong sense of wellbeing both socially and emotionally. Songs we have been learning to foster this are Where is? and Can you tell me what your name is.? It is lovely to see the children laugh while hiding their faces behind their hands and peeking out to say Boo. We are forming beautiful friendships with one another and look forward to your child s journey ahead in the Toddlers room. Happy Toddling Miss Lex and Miss Wendy.

4 Junior Kindy News The fish is in the sea The fish is in the sea Swim, swim, swim, swim The fish is in the sea We have all learnt and loved our Under the Sea theme. We have been able to extend our knowledge and have lots of fun learning and exploring about our under the sea creatures. We have also been working on our colour recognition skills this month. Over the last few weeks we have seen a major improvement in recognition of colours. Well Done Junior Kindy! Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on some special days such as St Patrick s Day, Harmony Day and Dental Health Week. As well as extending the children s interest by changing our theme to Transport, which we all know how many of our friends love the trucks! Our goals for the next month will be working on our language skills and building Social skills with our friends. Just a reminder to always check your child s pocket after each day, by checking these pockets you will be able to gain some important information and reminders. Also remember to pack lots of extra pairs of clothes and undies to ensure that we have spares just in case. Overall we have all had a wonderful few months filled with learning, exploring and fun. We look forward to spending the rest of the year with your children, and please feel free to talk or discuss anything with Miss Jasmine and Miss Paije at any time. 5 Senior Kindy News What a busy month we have had in the Senior Kindy room. This month we have been focusing on the children s communication skills and positive interactions with others. As well as our self-help skills such as toileting, helping make our own beds and packing way after ourselves. The children have also shown enjoyment in helping Miss Bell set up for meal times by placing the table cloths on the table, collecting plates, bowls, spoons and forks and also everyone s drink bottle at the table. The children have shown interest in doctors so we extended on their interest by learning about people that help us such as Police, Ambulance, Doctors and Nurses, Construction Workers and Fire Fighters through stories, picture cards, masks and role playing through dressup s and using props. We also learnt about Pirates through art and craft activities, stories and picture books, flash cards, songs and group experiences where the children went on a treasure hunt to find the pirates gold and walked on the pirates plank. As the children were involved in the Ocean Life Educational Show where we focused on the Under the Sea theme through picture cards, songs, stories, group games and art and craft activities. Over the next month we have many special events that the children will be getting involved in. We are currently focusing on colours and numbers through songs, flash cards, and group games. If you have anything you would like to include in the program or want us to focus on with your child please don t hesitate to let Miss Shelby or Miss Bell know. Miss Shelby and Miss Isabel

6 Kindergarten News Wow, we have all really enjoyed the learning this month about Ocean Life. The show was a great start and we followed on with a lot of wonderful art work and further learning about Ocean Animals. Did you know a sea star has eyes on the end of each leg? Our favourite story was The pout, pout fish. This book made some of us laugh out loud at Group Time. However moving on we are going to celebrate many different events over the coming months. We seem to always be celebrating some thing or other at present! As always if you have anything of interest you would like to share with us please just speak to Miss Nicky or Miss Sam as we love all your wonderful input. Just a quick reminder please label your child s drink bottle and make sure they have shoes each day. Also unless you have spoken to Miss Nicky or Miss Sam your child still needs sheets daily.
