SCOPE OF MANUAL This manual includes installation, maintenance, and parts information for the 84000BR Series Air Loaded Pressure Regulator and Vent Valve. Always wear protective gloves, clothing, and eye wear when performing any installation operations to avoid personal injury. Personal injury or equipment damage caused by sudden release of pressure or bursting of pressure retaining parts might result if service conditions exceed those for which the product was intended. To avoid injury or damage, provide relief valve for over pressure protection as required by government or accepted industry codes and good engineering practices. Check with your process or safety engineer for any additional measures that must be taken to protect against process media. If installing into an existing application, also refer to the at the beginning of the Maintenance section in this instruction manual. No person may install, operate or maintain an 84000BR Series Back Pressure Regulator and Vent Valve without fi rst being fully trained and qualifi ed in valve, actuator and accessory installation, operation and maintenance, and carefully reading and understanding the contents of this manual. If you have any questions about these instructions contact your Fisher sales offi ce before proceeding. This regulator/valve is intended for a specific range of pressures, temperatures and other application specifications. Applying different pressures and temperatures to the regulator/valve could result in personal injury, equipment damage, or leakage due to escaping fluid or bursting of pressure-containing parts. Do not expose this product to service conditions or variables other than those for which the product was intended. If you are not sure what these conditions are you should contact your Fisher sales office for more complete specifications. Provide the product serial numbers (shown on the nameplate) and all other pertinent information. 1

2 Baumann 84000BR Series Regulator/Valve Instruction If the regulator/valve vents fluids or a leak develops in the system, it indicates that service is required. Failure to take the regulator/valve out of service immediately may create a hazardous condition. To avoid personal injury, property or equipment damage, provide pressurerelieving or pressure-limiting devices (as required by the appropriate code, regulation, or standard) to prevent service conditions from exceeding limits. MAINTENANCE Avoid personal injury or property damage from sudden release of process pressure or bursting of parts. Before performing any maintenance operations: Always wear protective gloves, clothing, and eye wear when performing any maintenance operations to avoid injury. Disconnect any operating lines providing air pressure. Before attempting to do any work on a regulator, it must be isolated 100% from the active system. Use bypass valves or completely shut off the process. The isolated line should be voided of pressure and/or hazardous fluids. Use lock-out procedures to be sure that the above measures stay in effect while you work on the equipment. INSTALLATION NOTE The regulator/valve should be taken out of the line if the internal wetted parts need to be inspected. If the product is disassembled the diaphragm should be replaced to ensure a good seal in the groove of the body. Avoid personal injury or property damage by thoroughly cleaning the line of all dirt, welding chips, scale, oil or grease, and other foreign material. Failure to do so could result in damage to the seating and sealing surfaces of the regulator/valve and result in release of process materials. 1. Before installing the regulator/valve in the pipeline, thoroughly clean the line of all dirt, welding chips, scale, oil or grease, and other foreign material. 2. Install the regulator/valve so the controlled fl uid will fl ow through the regulator/valve body in the direction indicated on the body. 3. A three-valve bypass must be used to permit removal of the control regulator/valve from the line without shutting down the system. 4. When self-draining is desired, preferred orientation is as illustrated in Figure 1, Page 4. (Please note that process fl uid will drain toward the inlet port.) 5. In cases where heat-insulation is used on the regulator/valve and pipeline, ensure that the body is insulated and not the bonnet. 2

3 Instruction Baumann 84000BR Series Regulator/Valve 6. A pressure gauge or piping should be installed in the 1/4" NPT port in the bonnet. This gauge tells when leakage or breakage of the diaphragm has occurred. CALIBRATION 1. After installation of the regulator/valve, pressurize the system. 2. Remove cap (12) and turn adjusting screw (3) while watching upstream pressure gauge until desired setting is achieved. This requires some fl ow through the regulator/valve. A clockwise turn of 1/2" square head will increase pressure; a counter-clockwise hand turn will decrease pressure. Do not attempt to set screw below or above the pressure rating of the spring, this may disengage the spring making the regulator/valve inoperable. 3. Replace the cap (12). Do not squeeze the regulator/valve in a vise. This may cause equipment or property damage by distorting the shape and ruining the regulator/valve. BODY DISASSEMBLY CAUTION 1. Reduce the spring load by turning adjusting screw (3) counter-clockwise. 2. Remove clamp (11) and lift bonnet assembly (2) from regulator/valve body. This is the only action required for inspection and cleaning. 3. Turn adjusting screw (3) clockwise to exert some force and remove diaphragm (8) by unscrewing diaphragm (8) from compressor (5). Wipe with a clean, soft cloth and examine for wear. Replacement of diaphragm may be necessary. RANGE SPRING CHANGE 1. Separate body (1) and bonnet (2) per Body Disassembly steps 1, 2 and Loosen adjusting screw (3) to relieve spring force. 3. Hold upper portion of bonnet (2) in vise. Remove O-ring (13) and pry out retaining ring (7) using a small fl at screwdriver. Remove compressor (5) and range spring (6). 4. Select proper range spring (6) and reverse above procedure. NOTE: In the 1-1/2" and 2" sizes, springs are attached to spring button (4) and compressor (5). BODY REASSEMBLY 1. After reassembly of compressor (5) and diaphragm (8), lift complete bonnet subassembly onto regulator/valve body (1). The PTFE rim around the diaphragm (8) must fi t into groove of body for proper centering. 2. Apply the clamp (11) and tighten hex or wing nut fi rmly. Lips of clamp must grip the body and bonnet evenly. If they do not, check the diaphragm (8) for proper engagement with the body. The gap between both ends of the clamp (11) should not exceed 1/2" for proper diaphragm compression. CLEAN IN PLACE (CIP) OR SANITIZE IN PLACE (SIP) These procedures can be performed with the standard vent regulator/valve by using steam or cleaning fl uid at a pressure higher that the spring setting. (Alternatively, reduce the spring setting during CIP). 4. Inspect body sealing surfaces for wear or damage. 3
