2 FOREWORD Read this manual before operating any machinery ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS Before starting any operation it is compulsory to read this instruction manual. The guarantee of smooth operation and full performance of the machine is highly dependent on the application of all the instructions contained in this manual. Operator Qualification The workers responsible for using this tool must have all the necessary information, education and receive adequate training regarding safety, including: a) The conditions of use of the equipment; b) Foreseeable abnormal situations, pursuant to Article 73 of Legislative Decree 81/08. We guarantee the product's conformity to specifications and technical instructions described in the Manual on the date of issue, listed on this page; however, the machine may be subject to potentially major technical changes in the future, without the Manual being updated. 4 1 PRECAUTIONS WITH REGARD TO ELECTRIC SHOCKS Risks associated with electric shocks Check that the power plug is disconnected before touching live parts. Make sure the power supply complies with the machine's required voltage and frequency requirements. DO NOT use different types of power supplies. DO NOT spray or pour water on the unit. DO NOT cool the tip in water. In case of contact with water, immediately unplug the power supply. Avoid using the disassembled unit. 5 2 DESCRIPTION OF THE SOLDERING IRON AND INTENDED USE The Soldering iron (Art. 0027) is an tool for soldering electronic circuits with tin wire. The device is powered by the mains power supply 230 V / 50 Hz. 6 3 IMPROPER USE AND CONTRAINDICATIONS IT IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN TO: Use the tool on unstable surfaces, which would be affected by heat or that are easily flammable; Place the soldering iron on an unsuitable stand, resulting in a risk of fire; Allow the appliance to be used by untrained personnel and those who have not read the instruction manual; Use the device in climatic conditions that are not envisaged, in humid or dusty environments and in potentially explosive atmospheres; Use the soldering iron for a long period of time; Use the soldering iron in the presence of children; Replace the tips, perform inspections and maintenance without disconnecting the power plug and when the soldering iron is still hot; Modify and/or tamper with the device; Use power sources other than those prescribed; Throw water on the device and/or touch it with wet hands. Burns Be careful when you hold the soldering iron not to touch the tip, when still hot. You could burn yourself! Page 6 of 9

7 4 HOW TO USE 4.1 Switching On and Off Switching on and off is achieved by inserting (and removing) the plug into a 230 V / 50 Hz socket To remove the plug, hold it by the body and never pull the cord (see Figure 2). 4.2 Using the soldering iron Heating Precautions Figure 2 Removing the plug Do not heat the soldering iron without the tip so as not to jeopardize the life of the heating element. Also check that the tip is screwed on properly. Allow the soldering iron to heat upon on a suitable support to prevent dangerous overheating of parts that could become damaged or catch fire. Before soldering, clean the parts to be soldered thoroughly. Wait a few minutes before starting operation to allow the tip to heat up. Always keep the tip clean and apply a sufficient layer of tin solder. Only hold the soldering iron by the pen grip on the handle and place it on a suitable support when not in use. After finishing work let the soldering iron cool naturally. Never submerge it in water so as to avoid the danger of electric shock. Page 7 of 9

8 5 MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING The purpose of this section is to provide all the information on the maintenance procedures and frequency that the Soldering iron requires. INTERVENTION 1. General visual inspection: check the overall status of the device and, in particular, the flexible power cable and the presence of any damage or missing parts. Condition of the Power Supply Cord The power cord will only resist contact with the hot metal parts for a brief moment. The soldering iron can no longer be used if the cable has been damaged. Due to its special design, the power cord can not be replaced. 2. General cleaning: cleaning is necessary to rid the soldering iron of deposits of tin, dust or dirt which accumulate. Risks associated with cleaning Wait for the soldering iron to cool and gently wipe clean using a dry soft cloth. Do not use organic solvents for cleaning. 3. Maintenance of the tip: the tip supplied is made of copper-plated metal. If it is used properly it will have a long life: Always keep the soldering iron tip on a suitable support after switching it off or before storage until it reaches room temperature, only clean the tip before heating; Do not keep the soldering iron at a high temperature for a long period of time, so as not to damage the surface of the tip; Remove the tip and clean it every week or every 20 hours of use and remove any residue that forms on the stem, do not use cleaning fluids containing chlorine or acidic fluids but rather resins or active resin fluids. Only clean the tip when it is cold, do not ever clean it with abrasive coarse materials or with a file; If an oxide layer has formed, it can be eliminated by gently rubbing it with No sandpaper, or applying isopropyl alcohol or equivalent, and then immediately heat and cover the tip with tin to prevent the rusting of the cleaned surface. 9 5.1 Replacing the tip Burns Only replace the tip when the metal parts are at room temperature. Available in the Fervi catalogue there is a Soldering iron spare part tip set (art. 0033) that you can request from your dealer. The soldering iron must be unplugged and away from sources of heat before and during this operation: Manually unscrew the fastening screw support (1); Remove the dirt that may have formed inside the tip casing; Put the new tip (2) into position; Manually tighten the fastening screw support.
