3 COURSE INFORMATION COURSE DESCRIPTION For the last five years NYU Langone Medical Center has run the largest Robotics Course in NYC and this year we are expanding it! This course provides a unique opportunity to understand the essentials of the role of the robotic platform in gynecologic surgery, including current evidence and recommendations regarding minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. The program will consist of a series of didactic lectures and live surgeries intended to help you convert your open abdominal procedures into minimally invasive procedures. Topics will include proper patient selection, surgical approach, and how to implement them safely and cost-effectively. This course is part of the larger First Annual NYU Multi-Specialty Robotic Surgery course, which includes a Nursing and Allied Surgical Team Track. This track focuses on best practices in efficiency, safety and surgeon support with a team focused approach. With 5 systems and over 5,000 cases performed, we will share our team approach to running a multi-specialty program. For more information and to register for the Building a Multi-Specialty Robotics Team track, please visit: TARGET AUDIENCE Obstetricians/gynecologists interested in learning more about robotic surgery and gaining proficiency with the robotic platform STATEMENT OF NEED Proper patient positioning for robotic procedures is important to avoid neurologic damages as well as preventing sliding during steep trendelenburg. Proper trocar placement and docking technique for robotic procedures are important to avoid arm collision during the procedures that novice surgeons experience often. Physicians have experienced an increased incidence of vaginal cuff dehiscence with robotic-assisted hysterectomies. Physicians often report the difficulty of morcellation as well as morcellation-related injuries. Current guidelines recommend minimally invasive hysterectomy for benign uterine disease, but this is not commonly achieved in practice.
