All survey responses, comments and insights have been consolidated for this 2016 Australian Accounting & Finance Recruitment Market Insights and Salary Guide. This survey was carried out during November 2015 and distributed via an online questionnaire. Marks Sattin received 1324 responses.

3 COMMERCE - ACCOUNTING EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Last year (2015) saw an improved job market for accounting candidates, with increased levels of job security and satisfaction. Job satisfaction in particular has jumped with 56% of respondents stating they were satisfied in their roles in 2012 to 78% in As a result of this increased confidence candidates are looking at opportunities and keeping an eye on the job market. In particular, over threequarters of candidates in management roles are considering a move within the next 12 months. Overall, the job market remains competitive, however employers are increasingly selective about choosing the right candidate. Those with commercial acumen are in high demand, as the ability to partner with key business stakeholders and non-finance staff remains one of the most important traits. In addition, systems and industry exposure is very important for candidates looking to change jobs. A key motivator for candidates in this sector is remuneration, with most expecting a salary increase of at least 6% for a new role. Salaries remained fairly static in 2015, and we predict this will continue throughout Bonus levels were also fairly low with the majority receiving less than 4% of their salary in bonus. Key projects in accounting over the past 12 months have been focused around outsourcing, which looks set to continue in the accounting commerce space during This will have a knock-on effect on the level of transactional roles available in the market as the number of junior roles is reduced. Employers planning to hire during 2016 must ensure their processes are quick and efficient to secure the best candidates.
