1 LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS FIT PROGRAM The Los Angeles Clippers are proud to deliver our FIT Program to your school. This program was designed to reinforce the importance of fitness and exercise to youth in our community. The FIT program is directed at elementary and middle school students. FIT is part of NBA FIT, the NBA s health and wellness platform promoting healthy, active lifestyles for children and families. Children and teens need physical activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A moderate amount of physical activity such as running, jogging and playing sports, added into a child s daily routine can have significant health benefits. The FIT program is a two part program. Your school can choose to participate in the FIT Minutes Challenge and/or the FIT Days. Each FIT program includes great incentives for you and your students! Please take a few minutes to review the following information and make note of the deadlines. Meet the Friday, October 1, 2010 fax registration deadline and you will be entered into a drawing for tickets to a Los Angeles Clippers home game at STAPLES Center or NBA All Star Jam Session tickets. 2 MINUTES CHALLENGE FIT Timeline Starts: Monday, October 18, 2010 Ends: Friday, December 3, 2010 FIT MINUTES CHALLENGE The Los Angeles Clippers challenge students in elementary and middle school to charge their way to a healthier lifestyle through exercise and nutrition. Each participating student is asked to track the number of minutes they spend doing physical activity each day. The physical activity can be anything from walking, running, jogging, skipping, playing sports, jump roping, dancing, or anything that requires a student to get up and move! Our goal is for participating students to record a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity per day. BONUS MINUTES Classes participating in the FIT Minutes Challenge can log on to to find a FIT Tip of the Week and a FIT Snack of the Week. Clippers players and staff provide helpful tips on how to develop a healthy lifestyle. Students can earn extra FIT Minutes by answering each week s corresponding question on their Student FIT Tracking Sheet. Bonus points will be tallied by Clippers staff once your Student FIT Tracking Sheets are submitted by your Activities Coordinator. FIT PARTICIPATION Activities Coordinators are asked to submit the total number of classes from their school participating in the FIT Program on their fax registration form. Once your school is registered you will receive Teacher FIT Classroom Summary Sheets and Student FIT Tracking Sheets for distribution to your participating classes. FIT Minutes Challenge Students submit their completed Student FIT Tracking Sheets with parental consent to their teachers. Based on the number of activity minutes, teachers will submit their Teacher FIT Classroom Summary Sheet along with their Classroom FIT Squad (top 5 student FIT tracking sheets) from their class to their activities coordinator. The activities coordinator will forward all of the Teacher FIT Summary Sheets and Classroom FIT Squad tracking sheets received from the teachers (top 5 from each class) for their entire school to the Clippers Administrative offices by Friday, December 3, Bonus Minutes Website Questions An extra way to earn FIT minutes! There is a column on the Student FIT Tracking Sheet for each student to answer Bonus Minutes Website Questions. Students can log on to and find, under the FIT portion of the community relations section, nutrition and fitness tips. Students write in the answers found in the health and fitness section to each corresponding question for that week. Bonus minutes will be added on by the Clippers staff once your FIT Summary Sheets are submitted by your Activities Coordinator. These additional minutes may bump your school into First Place!

3 FIT DAYS FIT Days Timeline Starts: Monday, October 18, 2010 Ends: Friday, February 4, 2011 FIT FIT DAYS The Los Angeles Clippers challenge students in elementary and middle school to charge their way to a healthier lifestyle through exercise and nutrition. Each registered school holds a fitness day between November 1, 2010 and Friday, February 4, Schools find creative ways to make exercise and healthy nutrition fun during a special one day event held for student at your school. It could be relay races, a hulahoop challenge, or a walk around the school campus. Get creative and get healthy! FIT Days Participation Activities Coordinators register their school by submitting the total number of students from their school participating in the FIT Days and by telling us what your schools plan is for your FIT Day. A FIT Day Tip Sheet is included to help you come up with a creative plan! FIT Days Summary Sheet Once your school is registered you will receive a FIT Days Summary Sheet to be filled out by your activities coordinator. The activities coordinator submits photos of your FIT Day along with your schools FIT Day MVP to the Clippers Administrative Office by Friday, February 4, Please note: please follow your school s guidelines/regulations for photo submissions.

4 INCENTIVES FIT MINUTES CHALLENGE AWARDS: FIT Minutes Challenge School Award The elementary or middle school that tracks the most FIT minutes will receive a Basketball & Books FIT Clinic for 100 students led by the Los Angeles Clippers. FIT Squad The 5 elementary and 5 middle school students who log the most physical activity minutes will be drafted to the FIT Squad. Each FIT Squad student will receive 2 tickets (1 for the student & 1 guest ticket) to attend the Clippers Community Kids Awards Ceremony. Clippers Community Kids Awards Ceremony FIT Squad members will be invited to attend the Clippers Community Kids Awards Ceremony. The Los Angeles Clippers welcome elementary, middle and high school students to be part of an interactive event celebrating reading, education and fitness. Participants will be welcomed by Clippers Players, watch performances by Clippers Spirit and Fan Patrol, and participate in a special school awards ceremony. Each child in attendance receives books, t shirts and school supplies. FIT DAYS AWARDS: FIT Day School Awards The elementary or middle school that has the highest percentage of student participation receives a Basketball & Books FIT Clinic for 100 students led by the Los Angeles Clippers. The elementary or middle school that has most unique FIT Day will receive tickets to a Los Angeles Clippers game or NBA All Star Jam Session tickets. FIT Day MVP Who excelled during your event? Which student went that extra mile or took that extra step to have a healthier outlook on life? The FIT Day MVP selected by each school will receive a Clippers Gear Pack filled with Clippers items, books and school supplies. ADDITIONAL BENEFITS: FIT Clippers Gear All participating schools that meet the October 1, 2010 fax registration deadline for the FIT Program will be entered into a drawing for great Clippers items. FIT Los Angeles Clippers Game Tickets All schools that meet the Minutes Challenge submission deadline of Friday, December 3, 2010 with completed FIT Tracking Sheet Packages will be entered into a random drawing to receive tickets to a Los Angeles Clippers game or NBA All Star Jam Session tickets. All schools that meet the FIT Day submission deadline of Friday, February 4, 2011 with completed FIT Day Summary Sheets and photos will be entered into a random drawing to receive tickets to a Los Angeles Clippers game or NBA All Star Jam Session tickets.

7 FIT DAYS TIP SHEET ONE DAY WALK Students participate in a school wide one day walk. Classes sign up as teams to spend time before or after school and during their physical education class walking the school track or grounds. The team that tracks the highest number of miles or most time spent walking wins. To make the day more interesting, let each team come up with a team name and hang posters around campus. The winning team can then compete individually to claim FIT MVP. FIT STATIONS Set up physical activity stations around your school for students to complete. Students mark off each station they complete and the time it took to complete it. Station ideas: push up station, sit up station, hula hoop station, jump rope station. To make the day more interesting, throw in some fun stations like a bean bag toss where students can tally how many bean bags they get through a hole. ACTIVITY FUN DAY Students participate in relay races. Classes sign up as teams to participate in several different types of relay stations. Teams track the time it takes them to complete each station. The team with the quickest time wins! To make the day more interesting, throw in some fun team stations like the egg carry game where students relay walk while carrying a hardboiled egg on a spoon.
