2 Detroit Edison plans to rapidly increase the use of renewable energy in the coming years Currently only about 1% of Detroit Edison s supply portfolio counts toward RPS targets DTE Energy s goal is to use a diverse mix of fuels to provide energy that is reliable, affordable, and environmentally sound while rapidly developing and deploying tomorrow s innovative energy solutions.

3 Detroit Edison s renewable energy efforts will be in support of Michigan s RPS Legislation Compliance Targets Qualifying Technologies Ownership Constraints 10% of retail sales must come from Michigan-based renewable sources by 2015 (enough to power about 400,000 homes) New capacity requirements for Detroit Edison 300 MWs by MWs by 2015 Wind Solar Some Co- Generation Biomass Water Up to 50% owned by DTE Energy At least 50% by 3 rd party

14 Customer-Owned Solar Pilot Program 5 MW in total nameplate capacity $25 Million Program Size (Budget) Customers install solar systems Must follow Net Metering guidelines 20-year contracts to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) Pre-pay a portion of the RECs to help customers offset the upfront costs of solar installations. 14

15 Detroit Edison-Owned Solar Pilot Program 15 MW in total nameplate capacity $112 Million budget over 4 years Sited on large leased rooftops, ground-mounted or on DTE facilities Using standard site easement agreements Purpose of pilot program is to gain knowledge and experience 2010 plan assumes installation of 2MW of solar at multiple sites 15
