Anonymous Since antiquity, pearls have been highly sought after and treasured for their understated beauty and elegance. Created by entirely natural processes, pearls of the very highest quality were once exceedingly rare. It was our founder, Kokichi Mikimoto, who, in the closing years of the 19th century, developed the unique cultivation process that is now used worldwide to create almost all pearls sold today. The skills they learned were matched to traditional Japanese strengths of workmanship and design purity to create the first bespoke Mikimoto jewellery collection in Today, Mikimoto still a family-run business is the undisputed world leader, selling only the highest-quality cultured pearls. The Japanese Akoya Cultured Pearls are, even now, grown in the farms seeded by Mr Mikimoto in Ago Bay, Japan more than a century ago. Just five percent of those pearls possess the shape, lustre, colour and surface perfection needed to be included in our collections. Which is why our pieces are in demand the world over; their owners safe in the knowledge that there really is no finer pearl than a Mikimoto pearl.
