The Avaya IP telephone related parameters could be obtained through option number 176 configured on the DHCP server. Refer to Section 7 for a list of related Application Notes. 4. Verification Steps The verification includes two parts: 1. Verify that the wireless LED is green (associated) or amber (Radio Activity) on the Symbol CB 1000 and the Enterasys RoamAbout Wireless Ethernet Adapter. If not, check the association log through the Symbol CB 1000 Configurator Utility or Enterasys RoamAbout Wireless Ethernet Adapter manager by Configure! File! Show Log Window! Association Log (Figure 21): 16 of 19
17 Figure 21: Association Log Verify that the SSID configured on the converter is the same as the Avaya AP-3. If encryption is enabled, verify that the same keys are used on the Avaya AP-3 and the converter. Reset the device after any change is made. 2. If the Avaya IP telephone cannot register to the S8300 Media Server, press mute 2337 and see if the Avaya IP telephone gets its configuration from the DHCP server, i.e. IP address, default router, call server IP address, etc. If not, configure these parameters manually and see if the Avaya IP telephone is registered. If the Avaya IP telephone is registered, troubleshoot the DHCP problem. If the Avaya IP telephone is still not registered, check the forwarding table by Configure! File! Show Log Window! Forward Table (Figure 22): Figure 22: Forward Table Log Verify that the MAC address on the wire interface is the MAC address of the Avaya IP telephone. If not, verify that the MAC address is configured to captured or dynamic in Figure 14 and 19. Reset the converter when finished. If there is no MAC address on radio interface, troubleshoot wireless issues (SSID, WEP, etc). 17 of 19
18 5. Observations Do not attach a PC to an Avaya IP Telephone, which is connected to a Symbol CB 1000 or an Enterasys RoamAbout Wireless Ethernet Adapter. These converters only support one MAC address on their Ethernet interface. Wireless cards from Symbol and Enterasys are required for their converters. Key1 and key 4 must be identical as configured in Figure 15 for 128-bit encryption on a Symbol CB 1000 for the version being tested. 6. Conclusion As illustrated in these Application Notes, the Avaya AP-3 interoperates with the Symbol CB 1000 and the Enterasys RoamAbout Wireless Ethernet Adapter to support Avaya IP telephones with and without encryption (WEP: 64-bit and 128-bit). 7.
