He brings with him 23 years of experience in educating students and a passion for reading. Mr. Barry received his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and his Masters from Wilmington University. There is nothing more fulfilling than being able to make a difference in students lives, Mr. Barry says of why he loves teaching. His best advice for his students is: No shortcuts to success. You must put your best effort into everything you do. The Catcher in the Rye, by author J.D. Salinger is Mr. Barry s favorite book. Mr. Barry s favorite color is the blue found in the NY Giants logo. Choir Auditions! September: Childhood Obesity Awareness Month One in 3 children in the United States is overweight or obese. Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. The good news is that childhood obesity can be prevented. In honor of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, HSE encourages your family to make healthy changes together. Parents will be notified through the school website or this literary circular when uniform shirts are available for purchase. Interested in joining? Please attend an informational meeting on September 9 th at 6:30 p.m. in the HSE Cafeteria. Ms. Clapper, parent, will be the Troop Leader. Cub Club offers early morning drop-off Students may be dropped off as early as 7 am. The Cub Club is a before school care option for parents that need to drop-off their student(s) before 7:30 a.m. Students can be dropped off in the front of the school (side facing Loop 410). The program costs $10 per week, and must be paid a month in advance. Cub Club badges for vehicles are in the works, to expedite the drop-off process. All money raised from the program fees go into the activity fund, which go right back to the students. The enrollment form can be picked up in the front office or found on the school s website at: Any questions or concerns may be directed to Ms. Panella at vpanella@harmonytx.org. DISMISSAL / DROP-OFF UPDATES School dismisses at 3:10 p.m. With the pick-up lines moving at a much faster pace, we ask that all parents please arrive on time to pick-up your student(s). If you arrive after 3:40 p.m., students will need to be signed out from the front office. Kindly do not use your cell phone while in the pick-up or drop-off lanes. Even if you are waiting for your student to exit the school. Lunch balances can only be paid online, at this time, through the database. pg. 4
5 4 th & 5 th rs receive lockers No more backpacks in class Most fourth and fifth grade students received their lockers yesterday. Students are asked to bring a lock from home to secure their belongings. Please see graphic below for reference when purchasing a lock. Students will no longer be allowed to have their backpacks in class, once they have a locker. Lockers are the responsibility of the students. Please do not bring locks that require a key. Combination locks are preferred. Locks that have the combination on the side are usually easier for students. Parents interested in volunteering to help coach either the girls or boys soccer team, please contact Coach J via cjarzombek@harmonytx.org. Help spread the love of reading Ms. Panella, HSE Librarian, would appreciate any help available to get the library up and running as soon as possible. If you are able to volunteer (any amount of time is appreciated), please contact Ms. Panella via at vpanella@harmonytx.org. pg. 5
