1 1 County Poverty Report Card June 216 Summary The poverty rate for County increased from 11.7% in 21 to 14.2% in 213. For the month of December in 211 and 214, the county s unemployment rate decreased from 1.9% to 6.%. Median income in 214 was slightly higher in County ($46,88) than the state of ($46,766). Eligibility for free and reduced school lunch in the county increased from 4.2% in 213 to 41.% in 216. The LIHEAP case load for the county increased by 13.4% (964 in 212 to 1,93 in 2). Poverty Rate The poverty rate in County is below the statewide rate in 213. The rate in County has ranged from 11.7% to the current 14.2%. The statewide rate has risen slightly over this same time period. The County rate was below the statewide rate from Poverty Rate Poverty Rate by Age The poverty rates for all age groups were lower in County than. The poverty rate for youth, those under 18 years of age, was lower in County than the state (19% versus 19.7%). The poverty rate for those 18 to 64 was lower in County than the state (11.7% versus 14.%). 2 2 Unemployment Rate The unemployment rate in County declined from nearly 1.9% in 211 to 6.% in 214. The statewide rate also declined from 211 to Unemployment Rates Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) The SNAP Program had 4,3 cases active in June of 2 providing benefit s to 116,843 ns. The average monthly benefit per case was $4 (or $118 per person). This represents 11.8% of the population. These numbers are down from 212 when there were 8,918 cases representing 126,47 recipients or 12.8% of the population. Also in 212, the average benefit was $276 per case or $128 per person. Each program statistic has declined since 212. In 2, 12.% of the population in County was receiving SNAP benefits. The average amount per case was $249 down from $291 in 212. In the 212, 14.2% of the population received benefits. 2 1 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) The TANF program had 2,936 active cases in in June of 2 benefiting 7, 7 individuals (.71% of the population). The average benefit per case was $374 per month. These numbers are down from 212 when there were 3,282 cases benefiting 8,162 individuals (.82% of the population). The average benefit in 212 was $426 per month. The average benefit in County per case was $341 in June of 2 with.39% of the population receiving TANF benefits Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

3 3 Free and Reduced School Lunch Eligibility The percentage of school-aged children eligible for free and reduced school lunch in the county decreased from 47.1% in 213 to 4.6% in 216, while the state decreased from 4.2% in 213 to 42.6% in 216. % of School Aged Children Free and Reduced School Lunch Eligibility Utilization of Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) The LIHEAP case load increased by 13.4% (964 in 212 to 1,93 in 2) for the county and increased by over 9.% (1,76 in 212 to 11,79 in 2) for the state from December 212 to December 2. The LIHEAP payments per case decreased.7% ($39 in 212 to $8 in 2) in the county and 1.8% ($8 in 212 to $18 in 2) for the state from December 212 to December 2. $/case Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Medicaid Utilization Estimates The county s family adults and child clients accounted for a higher percentage of Medicaid s Physical Health funding utilization in 214 than 21. Medicaid Physical Health expenditures in the county increased by 14.2% ($.9 million in 21 to $8.2 million in 214), while increasing over 17.% ($624.4 million in 21 to $733.7 million in 214) in the state.
