JSB, leading the way in Long Bone Imaging DDR Inventor-V for Long Bone Overview DDR Inventor-V for Long Bone is a linear X-ray scanner which is designed to produce high quality, distortion free images with very low X-ray doses. It is designed to capture the whole spine & long bone image of a standing patient with a single scan without the need for stitching or vertical distortion. This lack of vertical distortion provides true size images in 1:1 scale for highly accurate measurements. Clever design also ensures equally high quality small body part sectional imaging. DDR Inventor-V adopts MIC detector with direct conversion of incident X-ray to electric signal, high fill factor without dead zone and without dead pixel, as well as a scanning system that can prevent scattered radiation with fan beam. These characteristics of MIC detector provide merit of high image quality with low dose irradiation against patient. DDR Inventor-V works by means of a vertical drive mechanism which moves the X-ray source and detector along the vertical axis to cover a field of up to 42 x 110 cm in a single continuous scan. It takes a maximum of 2.5 seconds and 5 seconds to do a chest and long body scan respectively. As soon as the scan is completed, data processing and digital image acquisition takes place within 2 seconds. The image produced is scalable allowing medical personnel to look at the full spine or long bone in one glance or zoom into a specific detail. In addition, the image, being digital, can be easily distributed. The system is fully PACS compatible for DICOM distribution and management. Control Window Database Window Process Window
Innovative Scanning Technology for Humans Health System Benefits 14-bit contrast range (4 times wider than CR) improved diagnostic capability. No distortion in the vertical axis (ideal for chiropractic and orthopaedic measurement) Up to 110 cm FOV (whole spine or whole leg in one scan no stitching) improved diagnostic capability and saving in staff time. Long life, robust gas detector reduced life cost of hardware. Stand alone package can be accommodated with minimal preinstallation works and disruption to existing departments. Very low dose (entrance surface dose less than one tenth of that required by conventional CR systems) ideal for paediatrics and repeat examinations. Low-dose weight bearing examination bridges the diagnostic gap between (frequently inconclusive) conventional X-ray and (rare, expensive) upright MRI with optimal cost/risk ratio and good patient compliance. Affordable and convenient price comparable with a conventional CR chest/bucky room, with negligible preinstallation requirement (using the standalone cabinet). Its speed of operation makes it a high throughput system that increases efficiency in patient exam time. Reasonable cost and low operational maintenance related expenses of the detector. The scanning system enjoys a long lifetime with constant image quality. Economic Operation & Maintenance DDR Inventor-V is an economic solution, since the MIC detector boasts long life time with consistent image quality. Supplied as a complete integrated system, the system price is far below comparable existing FPD DR system. FPD DR plates in particular are fragile and expensive. CR plates are inherently subject to wear. The MIC detector used in DDR Inventor-V does not suffer from wear or exhibit interpixel dead zones and is possible to replace if damaged. In addition, use of the DDR Inventor-V requires up to 80% less time to manage patients and display an image than CR; this may speed up the consultation process and potentially decrease associated staff costs. DDR Inventor scanning technology ensures reasonable cost of entry and low operational and maintenance costs. Potentially offsetting, the cost of the DDR Inventor-V is a reduction in investment in alternative CR or DR systems, the cost of which can vary significantly, and a reduction in the number of conventional X-rays (including repeat tests) carried out. More important than initial cost, the life of ownership costs is attractive due to low ongoing and maintenance costs. Even the core MIC detector is serviceable if ever required. MIC Detetor Scan-DR Direct Conversion No Dead Zone SCAN Type No Scatter Arbitrary Image Size No Distortion ~2.5ms / line scan High Quality Image Low Dose JSB Medics 04 05
JSB, leading the way in Long Bone Imaging DDR Inventor-V for Long Bone Low Dose Radiation DDR Inventor-V scanning method ensures shorter exposure times than other radiography systems, which can be significant if the patient requires multiple X-rays, for example with scoliosis. The exposure time is effectively defined by the time of passing of the narrow beam over the selected tissues. This highly focused beam effectively eliminates large area X-ray doses, so reducing radiation exposure risk to patients and to staff. Patient is exposed to radiation layer-by-layer, as against the traditional radiography techniques where a wide beam acts simultaneously on the entire anatomical area. The low dose radiation has been identified as being particularly beneficial to scoliosis patients. X-ray dose used is estimated to be about 25% of other equivalent techniques. The patient dose is a factor of 10 less than conventional CR systems, which is very important for scoliosis work. It produces minimal amount of X-ray scatter which further minimizes radiation exposure to patients and users. The combinations of high sensitivity detector, narrow fan beam, absence of anti-scatter grid and short effective exposure time serve to lower patient exposure dose levels. With JSB DDR scanning system, the lower levels of radiation allow careful reconsideration of safe procedures for children and pregnant women. Time Saving & Efficient DR DDR Inventor-V does not need a long-size cassette for whole spine / long body, eliminating time-consuming stitching process and creating full spine or long bone images on one exposure. This system is equally efficient in sectional and small body part examination. Workflow is once again streamlined by a single exposure hence reducing dose and discomfort to the patient and increasing user s productivity and throughput. Time to manage the patient and display an image is reduced by about 80% compared with CR. High speed of scanning ensures DDR systems are ideally suited to high throughput scenarios. Its instantaneous x-ray exposure greatly reduces motion artifacts, thus the patient does not need to be completely still while imaging. The technology allows for imaging without vertical distortion. This results in a more accurate image that improves patient assessment and treatment planning. The new technology does not suffer from stitching artifacts and a single-shot 110 cm long FOV is possible - an advantage when carrying out orthopaedic implants and when tracking patient progress. The conventional technology suffers from magnification errors whereas in the vertical axis the upright X-ray unit does not. Being a digital all-in-one imaging system, distribution and delivery is fast and uncomplicated. Highly efficient for general diagnostic, chiropractic, scoliosis or growth analysis assessments. Better image contrast over existing technology leading to improved diagnostic score. Fully PACS compatible for DICOM distribution and management.
Innovative Scanning Technology for Humans MIC Detector - JSB Core Technology Design of MIC Detector Direct Conversion Most digital radiography systems which are based on charge-coupled device (CCD) and amorphous silicon (a-si) are of indirect conversion type that uses scintillator to convert incident X-ray into visible light. That is, they need two-step process to get electric signal for digital image and the image quality is significantly affected by scintillator. DDR Inventor-V, however, adopts a Multi-channel Ionization Chamber (MIC) detector, which has intrinsic features of high efficiency by directly converting incident X-ray to an electric signal. Once X-ray irradiation passes through the patient, it penetrates the space between the electrodes and the gas in the MIC is ionized to generate charges by the X-ray, and then quantified by the ion counter before being turned into an image. Visible light Optical coupling to CCD High Fill Factor and No Dead Pixel Fill factor is the ratio of the sensitive area of the pixel to the effective area of the detector element itself. If the fill factor is small, light photons from a part of incident X-ray may never be recorded. MIC detector has no loss of effective sensing area because most ions are captured between the electrodes. Above all, MIC detector has nearly no dead pixel by its intrinsic characteristics. [ Flat panel detector ] [ MIC detector ] High Reliability The MIC detector has strong durability on operating environment such as surrounding temperature (-10 ~ 45 ), humidity, vibration and treatment. This feature provides users with benefit on the maintenance for economic operation. JSB Medics 06 07
Advantages of Scanning Method JSB, leading the way in Long Bone Imaging No Scatter Scattered X-ray photons can contribute very significantly to the exposure of the image. In screen-film or flat panel type radiography, scattered radiation causes a reduction of contrast of the image. The main effect of scattered radiation is to increase the noise of image. Grids are used to reduce scattered radiation, but can also produce artifacts on the image. In the case of Scan DR, the fan beam collimator reduces scattered radiation from patient and the linear structure of detector further limits incident scatter from the patient. Therefore, there is no need for severe image processing to remove the noise from scattered radiation and image processing speed is very fast. Film & flat panel type Need for the grid filtering Scan type No Need for the filtering Low Dose Normal exposure time of conventional screen-film radiography for chest is about 0.01~0.05 sec. In the case of Scan DR, exposure time per line depends on scanning speed and is under sec. at normal scan speed. Therefore, effective exposure time of Scan DR is shorter than that of other radiography systems. In addition, characteristics of MIC detector such as direct conversion, low scattered radiation and high fill factor contribute to high image quality and also to low radiation dose on patients. No Distortion The film-screen, CR and flat plate type detector cannot avoid the image distortion in vertical and horizontal directions. Scan DR shows real size of image in the vertical direction.
