1 Superheroes The Bible is full of superheroes. Kids can be superheroes too! In this emblem, we will look at a few of the Bible superheroes and learn how to be a superhero as well! Requirements 1. 2 Requirement #1 Superheros in the Bible Do you know the story of David? David was overlooked because he was the youngest son of eight sons. David went to Saul and told him that he will fight Goliath, who was a Philistine champion. King Saul tells David that he can t do this, because he was only a boy. David can do more than anyone thinks is possible. David knows that even though he is young and small, he will be able to defeat Goliath for he was fighting in God s power. He wanted everyone to know that God is the Only True God. Ask your leader to help you read the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:1-50) 1. What did Jesse ask David to do? (1 Samuel 17:17-18) 2. Why did Saul think David couldn t fight Goliath? (1 Samuel 17:33) 3. How did David fight with Goliath a) with his fists b) with Saul s armor and weapons or c) with the Lord s power? (1 Samuel 17:45) 4. Why is David a bible superhero? Daniel prayed to God every day. There were some men that didn t like Daniel and they wanted to get him in trouble. A law was made saying that people could only pray to the king. If they did not follow this rule, they would be thrown into a den with hungry lions. Daniel knew about the new law, but he still prayed to God 3 times a day. The men saw Daniel praying to God and told the king. The king was sad, but he had to put Daniel in the lion s den. The king hoped Daniel s God would rescue him. Daniel prayed that God would save him. God heard Daniel s prayer and sent angels to shut the mouths of the lions. The lions did not hurt Daniel. The king was so happy and wrote a letter to the whole country telling people about the God Daniel had been praying to. He was the God that saved Daniel from the lions and the God who is stronger than any king on earth. Ask your leader to help you read the story of Daniel and the Lion s Den (Daniel 6) 1. Why was Daniel thrown into the Lion s Den? (Daniel 6:11-12) 2. Why did the lions not hurt Daniel? (Daniel 6:22) 3. What can we learn from Daniel? Who are other superheroes in the bible? What makes them a superhero? With your leader, pick two other superheroes to read about.

3 Requirement #2 How to be a superhero How can you be a superhero in your own life? With your leader read 1 Timothy 4:12. Don t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Do you feel that people look down on you because you are young? We as Christians, can be examples to our friends and families, no matter what age you are. How can you be SUPER in your speech? How can you be FANTASTIC in your conduct or actions? How can you show INCREDIBLE love? How can you have LIGHTENING FAST faith? How can you be MAGNIFICANT in purity? Requirement #3 Be super in your speech! Supplies Needed Building Blocks Build as many towers as you can, as high as you can make them. Good and helpful words are like building a tower. What happens if you build the tower too high? Does it fall over? Just like using encouraging words is like building a tower, whines and complaints will knock the tower over! Build another tower. When you add each block, say something kind or helpful about the person to the right of you. Keep building the tower until it falls over. When it falls over, talk about how it feels when unkind words are said to us. What is even worse, is when we let unkind things come out of our mouths it is like knocking down someone we love!

4 Requirement #4 Be fantastic in your conduct! Our behavior and our conduct should come from one place God s Word. With your leader read James 1:22. Think of motions to the verse to help you memorize it! Listening to God s Word is not enough; you have to actually DO what you hear! Let s practice doing God s Word. Have your leader read the scripture verses below while you act them out! Psalm 47:1 Clap your hands, all you nations; Shout to God with cries of joy. Psalm 149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp. Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Matthew 22:39 And the second is like it; Love your neighbor as yourself Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Philippians 2:14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing. If we want FANTASTIC conduct, we need to do God s Word!

5 Supplies Love garland Requirement #5 Have incredible love! Construction paper (pre-cut 1 strips) Stapler Markers In the bible it tells us to Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:30-31) God s love is so different from our love. His love is unconditional, which means, He will always love us, even when we say or do wrong things. So, if we want to be super, not only do we need to love God with all of us, we need to love others the same way we love ourselves. How can we love our friends and family like we love ourselves? Take a strip of the construction paper and write a neighbor s name on the heart. This can be a family member, a friend, a church member, anyone! Think of as many people as you can. Talk with your other explores about how you can love these people. After, have one person take their strip of construction paper and fold it into a circle. Ask your leader for help to staple the paper together. Then connect all of your papers together to make garland. Hang it up in your classroom as a reminder of the love you show other people and the unconditional love that God has for us!

6 Requirement #6 Lightning Fast Faith Supplies Blindfolds Chairs Tables Any other materials to set up an obstacle course Take turns wearing a blind fold. Other explorers will guide you through the obstacle course since you will not be able to see. You must ask the other explorers which way to go, and trust that they will guide you in the right direction. As you were walking through the obstacle course, was it scary that you could not see the way to go? You had to rely on someone that you could not see! We cannot see God with our eyes, but we have faith that He knows all about us and will give us what we need. We have faith that He is with us at all times and he cares for us. God is involved in our lives! Our faith should be lightning fast. In the obstacle course, when someone told us don t go over there, or move to the right we listened right away. When God speaks to us, we need have faith and listen to what he tells us!

7 Requirement #7 Magnificent in purity Supplies Bible The bible says How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. (Psalm 119:9). We need to keep God s Word close to us and never let go of it! Sit in a circle and pass around a Bible one by one. Do not throw it and be careful to not drop it! With each pass, say one word of the verse above (Psalm 119:9). Ask your leader for help if you need it. Do this until the Bible verse is memorized. Try passing the Bible around and saying the verse at different speeds. See how fast or how slow you can say the verse. God s Word will always be close to us, and we should never let it slip out of our hands or out of our minds! His Word is never out of reach!
