1 山东大学 中国学 国际暑期学校 项目指南 ( 草案 ) Guidebook for China Studies International Summer School (CSISS) (Draft) Dear Students, Thank you for choosing the International Summer School at Shandong University (SDU). We re excited to have you join us for the upcoming summer! To ensure your successful and convenient start at Shandong University, we will provide you with detailed information on visa application, pick-up service upon arrival, course selection, Program payment and Optional Tours payment, accommodation information and host family application. Please read this guide carefully, and follow the process to avoid unnecessary delay in your arrival to Shandong University. 1 / 12

2 1. VISA Application 1) To apply for the student visa (X2 visa), please present to the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country the attached Admission Notice. Please refer to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate website for other documentation required to support your visa application. 2) Before June 30, and after successfully obtaining your X2 visa, please purchase your flight tickets to China. Please provide your arrival information through the online application system, or us at CSISS2016 will provide free pick-up service at Jinan Airport and Jinan West Railway Station on August 5-16, 2016, and free drop-off service on August 3, University dormitory rooms will not be available until August 2, so please arrive after that time. Details for free pick-up service: Date: August 5-16, 2016 Bus Airport Departure Times (each day): 13:00, 20:00 Jinan Yaoqiang Airport( 济南遥墙机场 ): Volunteers holding a Shandong University board will meet you at the 5 th and 6 th arrival gates (the International Exit). 3 2. PROGRAM INFORMATION 1) CSISS2016 provides China Studies courses plus a series of lectures. All courses, except the Mandarin Language Course, will be taught in English. 2) Lectures will focus on the introduction of China Studies from a variety of perspectives. If you want deeper study on any topic, you can choose a complete course on that topic. 3) One China Studies course up to five lectures (minimum three) are required for your study, and the program will confer 1-2 academic credit after you pass the course test at the end of CSISS ) Please submit the attached FORM-1 to chinastudies@sdu.edu.cn before May 31, PROGRAM FEES AND LIVING EXPENSES IN CHINA 1) Program fees are 5,700 RMB for one academic credit per person (8,700 RMB for two academic credits per person) including registration, tuition, accommodation, course materials and student card. Please pay the above participation fee at SDU (Shandong University International Student Center) office on Friday, August 5. 3 / 12

4 Please pay in cash and in RMB. Credit cards, traveler s checks, and overseas currencies are NOT accepted. Scholarship winners from Shandong University s partner universities will be exempted from such payment. 2) The cost for Optional Tours is not included in the Program fees. Please complete FORM-2 and submit it to chinastudies@sdu.edu.cn before June 6, *Please pay the Optional Tours fee at SDU (Shandong University International Student Center) office on Friday, August 5. Please make the payment in cash and in RMB. Credit cards, traveler s checks, and overseas currencies are NOT accepted. 3) Students are responsible for paying their own daily living expenses (food, commuting, etc). Average daily expenses are estimated to be 100 RMB per day. 4) All participants MUST purchase travel insurance before traveling to China. The insurance must include medical insurance and personal accident insurance. 5) All participants will be responsible for medical expenses incurred during their stay in China. Any participants who wish to stay in China before or after the program are responsible for associated expenses and personal safety. Shandong University will bear no responsibility for your private activities unrelated to the Program. 4. ACCOMMODATION 1) We have arranged on-campus accommodations for all participants. However, your preferred room type may not be available.
