Research Interests My major research goal, with funding from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Portugal), the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) EU EFPIA program and the Pharmaceutical Industry, is to integrate bioprocessing development and molecular cell biology techniques to deliver novel and validated 3D in vitro models for preclinical research, using stem cells and patient derived cells. Currently, our research targets are Cancer (solid tumors), Central Nervous System diseases, neural and hepatic toxicology. Complementary to this, I have been providing contract research services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. As project manager, I have been focusing in bridging my own competences with the ones of the existing R&D and infrastructural units of IBET to provide integrated solutions in the areas of drug development and pre clinical research.
