1 BRAZIL OVERVIEW
BRAZIL OVERVIEW BRAZIL: TOWARDS THE 20,000 MW Brazil was the first country in the world to introduce a specific auction for wind energy. Wind energy became competitive without subsidies. Brazil aims to have 20% of its total energy production from solar and wind by 2030 Brazil has reached 7,180 MW of installed capacity Wind energy is the cheapest contracted energy in the country: $ /MWh

2 AUCTION SYSTEM
AUCTION SYSTEM CUMULATIVE INSTALLED CAPACITY Through the use of specific energy auctions for wind energy, Brazil is constantly increasing its installed and contracted capacity of wind projects. The country contracts 1,000 2,000 MW of wind energy per year. 17,392 18,517 12,660 14,309 9,856 5, ,431 2,514 3, Installed and contracted capacity (MW)

AUCTION SYSTEM HOW THE WIND ENERGY AUCTIONS WORK REGISTRATION OF PROJECTS The Brazilian government does an extensive due diligence in each project in order to allow the participation of the project in the auction. It is necessary to have international certification of wind and energy, grid connection approval, environmental licenses, building license. AUCTION DATE The auction occurs online. Results and winners are displayed online. CONSTRUCTION TIME OF THE WIND FARMS There are two type of auctions: A-3: Three years to build the wind farm. A-5: Five years to build the wind farm DURATION OF PPA The government PPA has a duration of 20 years indexed to inflation.

BRAZIL OVERVIEW NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL: WIND GENERATION 12th October, % of all the energy consumption of the Notheast region generated by Wind on that day. In the 12 th of October this year, the wind farms located in the Northeast of Brazil produced 46% of all electricity consumption of the region. The wind farms are extremely relevant for the region, since the high winds occur during the dry season. The wind farms compensate for the low energy production of the big hydros during the dry season. NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL
BRAZIL OVERVIEW NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL: WIND GENERATION % of all the energy consumption of the Notheast region generated by Wind on What can happen in 2020? The Northeast region of Brazil can follow the example of Denmark. In the months of July, August and September export energy to other regions of Brazil due to the high generation of wind energy. NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL
NORTHEAST OF BRAZIL BRAZILIAN NORTHEAST Hydro power plants need little notice to start, stop or change generation, allowing them to respond quickly if the wind changes: Compensation of wind variability Optimize the Hydro power plants reservoirs, saving water, which shall be used later when better need. This interaction reduce energy costs and optimize system security of the whole country. Lower and stabilizes the use of Thermo stations.
