2 DIOCESE OF SACRAMENTO August 8, 2013 Dear Pastors, Parochial Administrators, and Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education, Confirmation of adults is offered twice each year in regional sites around our diocese. The next pair of celebrations will take place Saturday, November 2 rd at St. John the Baptist Church in Chico at 5:00 p.m. AND at St. Mary Church in Vacaville at 5:30 p.m.. Candidates and their sponsors should gather at the location of their choice two hours prior to Mass for check-in, a brief period of reflection and rehearsal. Confirmation will be conferred by either Bishop Jaime Soto or Bishop Emeritus William Weigand. This special Confirmation service is for those adults who were baptized in the Church, received first Holy Communion and have attended Mass, but were never confirmed. Adults who have not yet received First Eucharist, and have not attended Mass, should be treated as candidates in the RCIA process. Candidates may also receive the sacrament of Confirmation when the Bishop comes to your parish for the celebration of Confirmation with the youth, but Bishop Soto prefers that Teen Confirmations address primarily younger candidates. It is your responsibility to prepare candidates for Confirmation through an adequate period of catechesis and formation, and to encourage them to partake of the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. A brochure with additional information and registration form are included. Please use these forms to register adults who are ready to be confirmed. Make as many copies as you need. Registration deadline is Friday, October 18, Thank you for your faithfulness in the ministry of Christian Initiation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Office of Worship at (916) or by at jcavanagh@scd.org Sincerely, James Cavanagh, Director Office of Worship REGISTRATION FOR ADULT CONFIRMATION
