3 Things to Know Keep in mind that children of the same age can have very different academic and motor skills. Some children may have trouble writing in some of the smaller spaces of this lapbook. If this describes your child, we encourage you to let your child dictate the answers and you write for him. A lapbook is to be a fun project, not stressful. Hamburger Fold-Fold horizontally Hotdog Fold-Fold vertically Dotted Lines-These are the cutting lines. Accordion Fold-This fold is like making a paper fan. Fold on the first line so that title is on top. Turn over and fold on next line so that title is on top again. Turn over again and fold again on the next line so that title is on top. Continue until all folds are done. Cover Labels-Most of the booklets that are folded look nicer with a label on top instead of just a blank space. They will be referred to as cover label. Folder 1 How do I know where to place each template in the folder? This placement key tells you the template goes in the first folder at the top of the left flap. How Do I Get Info for the Lapbook? It is very easy to find the information you need to answer the questions in this lapbook. You may use the internet (with parent s guidance only) and books. 6 Folder 1 Cut out the booklet as one piece. Fold in half. Cut out cover label. Glue to the front of the closed booklet. Glue into the lapbook. Directions: Inside of the booklet, fill out the information about the president. 7 Inauguration Day Every four years our nation elects a new president. The day the new president is sworn in is called Inauguration Day, which is January 20 th. This is the official day he becomes president. The president-elect takes the oath of office on the steps of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The vice-president elect takes his oath here, too. The oath is given by the Chief Justice of the United States at around noon. As soon as the oath is finished, the band plays the song of the president, Hail to the Chief. It is followed by a 21-gun salute. The president then gives an inaugural address where he talks about his intentions as president. Then the president and vice-president attend a luncheon given by the United States Congress. 9 Oath of Office In order for the president-elect to become president, he must recite the oath of office. The president-elect promises to support and defend the Constitution. He stands before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who then asks him to place his left hand on the Bible, raise, his right hand, and repeat these words of the oath after him: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
