2 Event Guide Welcome to the 18th Annual Ripon Medical Center Triathlon! Thank you for registering for our triathlon. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with all the information in this packet. You will find that it contains everything you need to have an enjoyable and safe event. Please familiarize yourself with the schedule, maps and other information below. Proceeds from our event help to pay for Impact testing, a baseline concussion test, for all the athletes our sports medicine program serves. Chris Schattschneider, Race Director SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Saturday, July 23rd 4:00 p.m. Race Packet Pickup, Race Registration at the Green Space in the Registration Tent, GLCC 4:30 p.m. Kids Aquathon Race begins 7:00 p.m. Packet Pick up Closes The Race Director will be on hand in Transition from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m to answer questions. Sunday, July 24th - Race Day 5:30 a.m. Parking area opens 6:00 a.m. Transition area opens 6:00 a.m. Race Packet Pickup begins, body marking, chip pick up and Race Day Registration 6:30 a.m. Race announcements begin 7:00 a.m. RACE REGISTRATION CLOSES 7:15 a.m. Transition area closes for both Sprint and Olympic Events 7:15 a.m. Course Talk between the transition area and the beach 7:25 a.m. National Anthem 7:30 a.m. Olympic Course Starts (waves to be determined based on number of entries) 7:45 a.m. Sprint Course Race Starts - (waves start in 2 minute intervals) 7:50 a.m. Last swim wave enters water 8:30 a.m. Post-Race food available 10:15 a.m.* Sprint Course Awards 11:00 a.m.* Olympic Awards Ceremony * Award ceremony times are approximations and will depend on age group finishing times PARKING Parking will be located in the field next to the tennis courts up and to the north in relation to the transition area. There is a short walk from the parking area to the start of the race. Follow signs upon entering the complex. Parking will not be allowed along Lawson Drive on race day. Please plan ahead to allow enough time. RESTROOMS There will be porta-potties near the transition area as well as one on the run for the olympic course. FIRST AID Athletic Trainers from Agnesian HealthCare s Center for Bone & Joint Health will be present at the finish line and out on the race course. BIKE SUPPORT There will be technical support provided by Wheel and Sprocket (Oshkosh, WI). They will be available prior to race start and out on the course. The mechanic will have some extra equipment on hand, but do not rely on him to have all necessary replacement equipment to make your bike functional. Racers should plan to be self-supported. Wheel and Sprocket in Oshkosh (25 minutes from Ripon), (920) , will be open on Saturday night until 8:00pm should an immediate need arise.

3 TRANSITION AREA Only volunteers and participants with body markings and wristbands are permitted to enter the transition area. Participants will receive wristbands and helmet numbers from race staff after they have been body marked. RULES OF PARTICIPATION (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!) Please pay attention to course information that will be shared during the race morning course talk at 7:15 a.m. For specific questions our Race Director will be available during Saturday Night Packet Pick up You must have signed the event waiver form. Online registrants would have done this electronically. Competitors must wear ANSI, Snell or CPSC approved helmets, fastened whenever bike is un-racked. Only participants are allowed in the transition area. No extra equipment (additional wheels, helmets, etc.) will be allowed in the transition areas. No Glass Items permitted in the transition area Bikes can only be mounted after passing the mount/dismount sign. Bikes must be dismounted before entering the transition area. Drafting on the bike is not permitted. Pass only on the left, never crossing the centerline of the road. The course is open to traffic. Although courses are well marked and staffed by volunteers, participants are responsible for knowing the courses. Study the maps and drive the courses prior to the race. Racers are responsible for knowing the race course. MP3 Players are not allowed during the bike portion and are strongly discouraged during the run portion of the event. Racers need to be able to hear and respond to race staff or risk missing important race information. Participants who finish the event may remove their bicycle from the transition area as long as they do not impede the progress of participants who are still competing. Timing Chips must be worn from start to finish of the race in order to receive a time. If your chip is missing please alert race staff immediately. Race bibs are required on the run portion of the event only but may be worn through out. THE COURSE Sprint and Olympic Courses: Swim: The start of the race takes place at the beach of the GLCC. Racers will enter the water in waves and swim out and around the buoys and back to the beach. Lifeguards and race staff will be placed along the course. Wetsuits will be allowed. Check our for current lake temperatures. Bright colored silicone swim caps are provided. Sprint course races will have yellow caps, Olympic course racers will have green swim caps.

4 Bike: Rolling hills decorate this course. The north side of the lake provides us with much better road conditions. Racers will leave the GLCC and proceed to HWY T using the right turn lane of HWY 23. Racers should be EXTREMLY cautions leaving the grounds to remain with in the south turn lane. In past years over zealous racers have proceeded through the highway barrels and on to HWY 23. Both courses follow the same roads until mile 7 when the Olympic course continues west for 9 miles and returns to join back up with the Sprint course. There will be no water station on the bike. Please plan ahead. Run: The run is an out and back that winds through tree covered roads with in the GLCC. The Sprint course run is on paved roads. The Olympic course has some hard packed gravel between mile 4 and 5. Water stations are placed every mile and will again have water as well as a sports drink. Water will be available at transitions, the finish line, and evenly spaced on the run.

5 TIMING The race will be timed using the adhesive ankle straps. The device, embedded with a unique code and enclosed in a protective plastic shell, interacts with sensor mats placed at the entrance into the first transition (swim in and swim out), the entrance to the second transition area (bike in) and the finish line to record each individual s exact time and place at those intervals. Relay participants will use Velcro straps that must transfer from one team member to the other. These straps are not disposable and must be turned in at the finish line. Volunteers will be on hand at the finish line to collect the chips but each participant is responsible for the return of his or her chip. Team members: Chips must be handed from swimmer to biker and biker to runner. If the chip does not cross the mat then neither did you. A $30 charge will be assessed if the ChampionChip Velcro strap used by the relay teams are not returned. RESULTS Unofficial race results will be posted near the finish as soon as racers start coming across the finish line. Complete race results will also be available beginning at 6p.m. on race day at Last years race results can be seen at the previous link by using the search at the bottom of their page. Make sure to like our page to see all of the race day action. **A NOTE ABOUT DEPARTING AND RETURNING TO THE TRIATHLON*** During the race on Sunday (7:30 a.m. 11 a.m.) the section of Lawson Drive will be part of the race course. We ask that if you choose to leave during the race, exit the conference center through the west exit, signs will be posted. If you have spectators coming it, please let them know it would be best to arrive before race start. SPECTATORS The best place to view the race is from with-in the GLCC. There will be food available for purchase. Minimizing traffic in and around the conference center DIRECTIONS The GLCC is located just west of Ripon and Green Lake on HWY 23. For more detailed directions please go to the Triathlon website. FROM NEAR AND FAR Ripon is conveniently located in East Central Wisconsin just 180 miles from Chicago, 80 miles from Madison, 152 miles from Rockford and 270 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. LODGING Green Lake Conference Center: ( $105-$135 Triathletes can stay for $80, Suites available for $100 Green Lake Conference Center is a 1,000-acre complex on Green Lake located 9 miles from Ripon, offering hotel rooms, campsites, houses and cabins.
