2 GENERAL INFORMATION AND RULES 1. DATE The 2014 Canadian Junior National Wushu/Kung Fu Championships will be held on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16, Doors will open at 9 am and events will commence at 10:30 am sharp. 2. COMPETITION VENUE Hamilton Sports Multiplex 75 Queenston Rd Hamilton, Ontario L8K 1E8 3. Events: National High Performance Competition Events Competitions will include the following events for males and females in all age brackets: - Wushu Taolu (Bare Hand, Short Weapon & Long Weapon Routines); - Participants representing a recognized Provincial Wushu Sport Organization seeking National Ranking and Team Recognition. - Participants in this level of competition will be ranked and recognized as CANADIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONS in their respective age and event brackets. 5. PARTICIPATION ELIGIBILITY National High Performance Competition Events - Must be registered as a Competitive Athlete under WushuCanada through their applicable Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) - Non-members pay the full rate of $315/athlete. This also applies to athletes that reside in a province without a corresponding PSO. Page 2 of 7

3 - Any athlete wishing to compete who resides in a province with a PSO must pay their dues through their corresponding PSO. - A Taolu competitor may enter a maximum of three (3) individual events for National ranking 6. REGISTRATION FEE (must be paid through competitor s club or organization) National High Performance Competition Events: Taolu Events: $250.00/athlete for clubs registering 1-10 athletes $225.00/athlete for clubs registering athletes $200.00/athlete for clubs registering 16 or more athletes (Maximum of three individual events for National ranking) - Teams and participants are responsible for their own accommodations, food and transportation. - Payment must be made by bank draft or money order (cheques will not be accepted) and payable to: WushuOntario. - Cash accepted if payment is made in person. 7. DEADLINES High Performance Preliminary Club Registrations: Must be made in person or via before Feb 1 st, 2014 by 12PM Eastern Time. Final Individual Registrations for all membership registrations, event registrations and payments for clubs and participants must be received in person or by mail to the WushuOntario office before Feb 1 st, 2013 by 12PM Eastern Time. The required registration forms must be completed along with 2 passport size photos. A $ administration charge will be applied to athletes who submit after the deadline. DRAW LOTS CEREMONY - The Draw Lots Ceremony for Taolu will be held at 8:00 pm on Friday, February 14 th, 2014, at WushuCanada headquarters. The ceremony will be hosted by representatives of Taolu Technical Committee. Each team may send a representative to attend the Taolu draw. The Technical Committee will draw on behalf of athletes that are unable to send a representative and will be recorded for archive purposes. Page 3 of 7

PLACING AND AWARDS National Ranking Wushu Competition Events: - Top 3 participants in each individual event will receive an award and certificate of achievement - Top 6 participants in overall National Rankings for each age group will receive a Certificate of achievement - Selected participants shall have the opportunity to represent Canada at corresponding International events taking place in National Team representatives will receive a sponsored team uniform for participation at the World Championships. - Top participants of each age category shall be awarded Title of 2014 Canadian National Champion 10. ARBITRATION Wushu Ontario will establish an Arbitration Committee for the purpose of resolving any competition disputes. Prior to the completion of the whole competition, the participant or coach must inform the Chief Judge that they wish to file a complaint. A $100 (non-refundable) fee and a written complaint must be submitted to the Arbitration Committee within one hour commencing the completion of the whole event. Decisions made by the Arbitration Committee will be considered final. 11. NATIONAL RANKING TAOLU COMPETITION CATEGORIES Age Groups: Group A: January 1, 1996 December 31, 1998 Group B: January 1, 1999 December 31, 2001 Group C: January 1, 2002 December 31, 2007 Taolu: Group A: 3 rd Set of International Competition Routine: Changquan, Daoshu, Jianshu, Qiangshu, Gunshu, Taijiquan, Taijijian, Nanquan, Nandao, Nangun; Duilian Group B: Changquan, Daoshu, Jianshu, Qiangshu, Gunshu (1 st Set of International Competition Taolu), Nanquan, Nandao, Nangun (International Compulsory Routine) 42 Forms Taijiquan, 42 Forms Taijijian Group C: Changquan (No.3 Elementary Routine), Daoshu, Jianshu, Qiangshu, Gunshu (Elementary Routine) The National Ranking Events will be conducted in accordance with the newest edition of the Rules for International Wushu Taolu Competition endorsed by the IWUF. The right of interpretation of the Rules rests solely with WushuCanada s technical chair. Selected participants of the Canadian National Wushu Team must provide a valid life insurance certificate, valid passport, and valid medical certificate including an ECG test. 12. CODE OF CONDUCT First and foremost, utmost respect amongst all athletes competing against each other. Coaches should lead by example and advise their athletes regardless of the outcome. Participants must always respect themselves, their fellow competitors, coaches and most importantly the Page 4 of 7

5 judges. The behaviors of the athletes are a direct reflection of the coach and it is the responsibility of the coach to ensure that athletes conduct themselves in a responsible and respectful manner to all bodies within the competition. If a coach, participant and/or spectator does not adhere to any of the said above and displays a non-conducive manner of sportsmanship, it will be the right of the organizing committee to have the coach, participant and/or spectator suspended and/or removed from the premises and from all WushuCanada sanctioned events. 13. COMPETITION METHOD Each participant may compete in one hand routine, one short weapon routine, and one long weapon routine. The best two out of three routine scores will be calculated to determine the ranking score for that participant. The first place winner of each event will get 0.1 points added to their overall ranking score Men and Women will be ranked separately The top 2 women and top 2 men in each age category will form the Team (Taolu) to compete at the th World Junior Wushu Championship in Antalya, Turkey. The top 5 women and top 5 men will form the Team (Taolu) to compete at the th Pan-American Wushu Championship in Venezuala (Margerita Islands). Duel events will not contribute toward the team selection 14.
